Adding an '040 or '060 would be very difficult. Would it not? Thermal problems, much less the physical size of the CPU would make it impossible to fit in the A1200. An external unit? Regards, John Chang Technical Support Manager Scala, Inc.

The 060's 3.3v design should eliminate thermal problems and make it a great thing to put in an A1200. Probably cooler than a 50mhz 030.

Dale, OK, duh, you got me a SECOND time! ;-} Had no idea that the '060 is a 3.3V design. Are you sure it will fit? What about clock/calendar, SCSI, RAM expansion, 5V to 3.3V regulator, etc. OK, I'm waiting for the inevitable THIRD time! Regards, John Chang

I'm always amazed at all the junk people manage to fit in tiny A500s and A1200s. I don't have dimensions of the '060 handy, so, no, I'm not sure that it will fit. The other stuff probably isn't too hard, and I'd be suprised if you couldn't cram the '060 itself in somehow. The question is, who is going to pay $1500 for an A1200 expansion device? No, please don't answer that, I'm not taking votes and I'm not a hardware guy who would have any influence over whether the product would be built.

The german 'MC' a Computer-Magazine for PCs Macs and other Computers wrote following: German: "Der jetzige Chip mit dem 68060 wird in einer 0,5 MikroMeter CMOS Technologie gefertig, wobei die traditionellen TTL-Pegel mit 5 Volt benutzt werden." English: "The actual chip with the 68060 is produced in a 0.5 micrometer CMOS technology, the traditional TTL-level with 5 Volt is used." Since I am not a Hardware Designer and not a translator for technical texts it is possible that I didnt understood the text correct and/or didnt translate the text correct. Maybe one of the other german speaking guyz in this forum could translate the german text again. Of course a 3.3V chip would be better, but the '060 has also some missing features which were first implemented in the '040. And again my worse translation: The divided supervisor-stackpointers the both T-Flags in the Status-Register the different Floating-Point commands and other little things are missing. The Magazine thinks it could be because of some minor designingproblems. Well, yes, I hage an 030/50 and it's not bad, but an 060 would leave it and several of its brothers in the dust. And the 060 is available in 3.3V, so it wouldn't be a big problem I think. As to the potential market… probably NOT!!! 🙁 Paul
