#3DS vers. 4 changes
31 messages in this thread
On Tuesday I was in Chicago for the ADESK 3DS version 4 seminar. During the
show Ronny Banks stated that the SPLINE MODELER was not up to ADESK standards
and would be left out of v4. Will it be replaced by anything? It was a VERY
big part of v4.
Also, the ADESK answer to question about collision detection was a bit evasive,
I thought. Will v4 HAVE collision detection ability? They refered to
Positron's DMM!?
I really liked what I saw with the IK IPAS. This may be worth the price by
itself, but I'm greedy and want more, More, MORE. . .

P.S. To Ronny Banks, thanks for the raffle prize, I never win ANYTHING!@!
Hi David,
<< Will it be replaced by anything? >>
I hope to post something tomorrow.
<< answer to question about collision detection was a bit evasive, >>
There is a general collision detection function defined in the language.

I think that the Browser is going to be included in the patch modeler's place.

Joy (major SSSSSSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH)…any word on if it'll be
refined and set out as an update? Oh, well, guess I'll wait till Jonas's
annouce ment later and hope for the best.

When should we "send $" <g>… I'm ready and willing! (haven't seen any offer
or mail-out, yet)
As far as I know, the product is in production now, so it shouldn't be
long (late next week?). Brian, Jonas or Nik ought to be able to find
out for sure.

Sounds right.. The ramp up, initial shipments and then the increased volume
shipments…..
I'll post notice as soon as the first box goes out the door….

Jonas: I called my local Autodesk Multimedia dealer to ask about the 3DS R4
upgrade and found out that my dealer wasn't an Adesk dealer any more. Do you
have a listing of who **are** dealers in the Cleveland, Ohio area?

Jonas,
As a veterinary pathologist, I have seen this before; Term: feeding
frenzy
jhg
ps . . . . I am anxious too! <G>
Hi Jonas,
That sounds like a promise <to post a note … first to "ship">
Ya'll do great work
jhg
hmmm… <g> Always a pleasure, Gary!
An image browser instead of the patch modeler? I don't think anyone
needs another image browser… I take it that Yost Group must not
have had anything to do with the patch modeler. I can't say how
dissapointed I am in the folks who did though…. Big bummer indeed.
My dissapointment is not aimed at you guys, I know how much work you
put in and I'm very grateful for it. Just venting… On another note.
I got a letter in the mail today from Autodesk, stating that I won
the Residential Architectural still rendering category in the image
and animation contest. That $1000 is going to get me a couple of IPAS
disks… Can't wait. I owe it all to you guys….
You surmise correctly… we had nothing to do with it. And like you,
we're all dissapointed as well, but I'm confident that the directions
we're going in will (more than) make up for it. Congratulations on
winning the grand in the contest!
Glad to hear it Gary. I can't wait to find out what you mean by "the
directions we're going in." Sounds exciting….
Congratulations on winning the still image prize but I just wanted to
warn you that I believe you have violated the forum rules regarding
posting prices. You should have only stated that you have won the
prize and then asked people to email you privately for learn the
amount of the prize.
Alec Jason
<g>
P.S. My real point is that I think the forum rules about not posting
prices is getting absurd.
P.P.S. But my congratulations are sincere. Hope you will post a
version of the image here so we can see it.
Thanks for the encouragement Alec. The contest was very public as was the
amounts of the prizes so I'm pretty sure no rules were violated. Pricing for
animation or other services is a completely different issue altogether. I'll
upload the image if I can find it. It's on tape somewhere.
Dave Mennenoh
Dave,
I was KIDDING about "violating the rules" by mentioning the amount of
your prize. It was a sarcastic attempt to underscore the absurdity of
the forum's "email for prices" policy.
Alec Jason
Alec,
>> underscore the absurdity of the forum's "email for prices" policy <<
I'll second that!
Alec, Ahhh. Welll. I totally agree with you then. 🙂 I kinda figured.
Dave Mennenoh
David:
Congrats on the Residential Architectural still rendering award!
Greg Pyros
Thanks Greg. Finally…. <g>
Dave Mennenoh
Congratulations, Dave! Must be a great image!
DT
Thanks Dave. I'll be uploading a sample if I can find it…

>I think that the Browser is going to be included in the patch modeler's place.
Is that the very same Browser that is included on the Texture
Universe???? If so, many of us already have it. How about putting
together something simple but cool as a consolation prize. (something
most of us don't already have.) Or……. why not just put a slip of
paper in the box that would give buyers a $100 credit toward the
autodesk product of their choice. (surly I jest <g>)
Anything but another Browser…. please.
thanks
-David
Don't give the Yost group sh*t, they have very little to do with R4. Talk to
adesk about it.

As JohnT so tactfully put it, you should probably talk to the Autodesk folks
about this… we've been deep in the r5 code mines for awhile now.

>>As JohnT so tactfully put it<<
Another shining example of my skill as orator and diplomat. As Dave Marks
suggested, maybe it's time for me to re-adjust the automatic IV java drip <g>.

Way to go, Dave!! I can almost see those IPAS eyes rolling from here
(Milwaukee)….
David-
Thanks, Jonas. . . I'll stay tuned. David-
Boy am I looking forward to your new IK stuff, guess I'll live without SPLINES
for a while longer. . .
Thanks. David-
