Microsoft buys Altamira?

Can anyone tell me what's up with Microsoft buying Altamira? What's MS's plans
with it? Did everyone go with the purchase or did people bail? What does this
mean for the future of Altamira?
Thanks, ____kevin
I saw that, too! And considering some of the Yosties are in orbit around
Altamira, too, I was hoping to hear some dirt…
Kevin:
I heard the news about Altamira, not everyone bailed. There was a vague
article in PC World about it. The article hinted that the software would be
upgraded to include batch effects for many video frames. This isn't new news
as the Altamira booth was talking about this at SIGGRAPH. One guy even told me
that the code is already in there, its just not complete enough to let rip.

ANy hint as to when these updates to Altamira will be available?
An update date to Altamira has not been part of any conversation I've
had with them (they consciously avoided the direct question). The
articles that I've read about the sale to Microsoft did not mention a
date either.
I have asked them directly also – and not gotten too far. I basically
like the program but it needs lots of enhancements for v2.0.
Yes, I like the program alot but I could crank out quite a wishlist
for a version 2.0. Unless I'm missing something (happens regularly
🙁 ) I find simple panning and zooming within Altamira to be
abysmal. Ah, don't get me started …

I heard a rumor from well placed source: Bill G. is planing all out
assault on AutoDesk.
– just a rumor.

Is Caligari True Space – Bill's answer to 3D Studio? Or will it be the
PC version of Lightwave?
who knows what evil lurks in the heart of man?

For me that's a backup written onto CDROM and saved on a bank safety
deposit box… :>
Yeah, maybe big BG sees all those boring office types discussing
Inverse Kinematics, Gamma control, rotation bias, … good deal, a
full blown 3D modeling/rendering package included in MS Office, right
next to the studies of leprechaun diseases in two easy lessons
(multimedia, of course).
Wouldn't it be great if they had some freak magnetic storm up in
Washington that would wipe out all magnetic media?
