#AutoPilot/Amiga 500+

G'Day All,
Firstly, a confession… I'm quite new here, and to the Amiga for that matter,
but not to computing or comms. At home I use my trusty 16Mhz 2MByte QL from a
40 MByte Hard Disk, not major hardware by todays standards but nor is it the
'Fatware' that I have to struggle thru the day with on a 66Mhz 486 at work.
Fortunately, crashes & lockups on the later help break the tedium of waiting
for Windoze to get with it. So how does an Amiga figure into this ???
Well I recently relocated to Madison in the USA from the UK, reluctantly
leaving behind a loved one (LO), meaning that it's costing a small fortune in
phone calls back to the land of the Corgis & Liz & Phil & the kids !!!.
Now it just so happens that son of the loved one (SOLO),just 13yrs, has an
Amiga 500 Plus at his disposal which unfortunately, by my standards anyway, he
abuses by running games soxware almost exclusively, with the possible exception
of Deluxe Paint III. Such a waste of a good OS me thinks, but each to his own I
say. Anyway, I've got this idea to get the LO online via CIS, and SOLO's Amiga,
fitted with an external modem and appropriate SoxWare, is the means by which I
would like to make the connection. So my fellow commers, my questions to you
are:-
1) Will AutoPilot run satisfactorily on the Amiga 500 plus. ?
(Note that it only has a single 720k Floppy Drive, no hard disk…)
2) Is it intuitive enough for someone whose only previous computer
exposure is via a WP on a Windose PC as a company secretary… ?
3) Is it a complete comms package or simply an off-line reader or
TAPCIS type package or indeed both ?
4) Is this idea a starter or should I reluctanlty look to kit the
LO out with her own PC/Windose crash box ?
(Actually I'm will be migrating to OS/2 Warp, a real multitasking
OS like QDOS and AmigaDOS, back at the office and I would
certainly want nothing less than this for the LO !!!)
Your wisdom will be most welcome…

No. The minimum configuration is AmigaDOS 2.04+, 3M ram, 5M available HD
space.
You could always bring tears of gratitude to the eyes of your SOLO by
upgrading his system 🙂
