Does anybody know anything about the Commordore external modem VM2400
MMP/V.42bis? It is an external modem that normal plugs in between the keyboard
and CPU/computer I think it was for the Commodore Colt IBM compatable series. I
have a friend that is tring to use it on his CDTV we had to find a power source
for it, normally it takes power from the keyboard.

I've never heard of a modem that plugs into the keyboard, unless it's a
keyboard 'system unit' such as an A500 where the keyboard is part of the
computer console itself…and even then, modems plug into the serial port.
Not sure what the purpose of plugging into the keyboard would be since
it still needs a serial port and phone line plugged in.
Are you sure of what it is?

Jim meant to say that the modem gets it's power from a connector that fits
between the computer and the keyboard. The modem itself is hooked to the
serial port in the normal manner. I called him tonight and told him I didn't
understand his post and we tested the modem on my computer! <g>

Ok…so the question is…will it work with a CDTV then? If so, then
presuming you got a keyboard cable for the CDTV and any necessary adapters…I
don't know why it wouldn't work with one.
As an alternative, keyboard power is 5v…I presume you could make up
an appropriate connector attached to a 5v power supply that would plug into the
modem. Just about any electronics store should be able to get you a regulated
5v power supply.

Yes Don, It's pretty messed up. It need to be pluged between the keyboard and
the computer so it can get the 5 volts it needs. It still plugs into the
serial port too. Only Commodore would think of such a thing!
