Ben, when I would use the built in help for AP, I found it to be extremely slow. Note that I have an unaccellerated 2000. (v1.73) Ron

Yes – it would be very slow on an unaccellerated 2000. Some of that can be eliminated by designing the ApAssist databases to be very modular – page at a time, and such – but not all of it. In point of fact, an a2000 is a very slow computer. –Ben …via AutoPilot

True enough. It is slow. But at this point, even ignoring my financial issues (house, baby, etc.), it doesn't seem to make sense for now to do anything about it. A side point; for a slow cpu, the Amiga 2000 with the 68000 still does rather well in most things. The OS and the chip set really do work wonders. Ron

I was just noticing today how critical the speed of a PC CPU is to everything. I thought "I don't need a 100mhz Pentium, I'm not doing any physics or anything." I was wrong. On the Amiga, GUIs are very usable at 7mhz 68000, even though you might wait a while for some calculations and the like. Our custom chips have something to do with it, but I think the OS has more to do with it. On a PC, I was amazed at the difference changing nothing but CPU speed (from 33 to 66) made to scrolling through lists and similar things.

Yep! Not to mention extra RAM speeds thing up much more on PC's too. (Running just about any other OS than just plain DOS.) Bob Comer Cheyenne, Wyoming U.S.A.

Ron – The first version of ApAssist help for AP was slow even on an A4000/040, because the data was not, as Ben put it, "modularized". It has been so modified now, and is MUCH faster! jsaklad@welchlink.welch.jhu.edu . . JimDoc, on AutoPilot

You find it extremely slow because you are not using the latest, or ever close to the latest version of AP. -sja
