#Hot New C= Buyout Rumor

PURE RUMOR, I KNOW NOTHING:
Rumor spreading right now says the UK lost the bid but will be kept on as
a distributor. Rumor says some company called CEA (not CEI) got it. I
wonder if someone made a typo or if CEI decided to call the new company
CEA or if this is some third bidder I've never heard of. Of course, it
may be that this is all pure rubish…

Well, the current winner ain't CEI, unless something extraordinary has
happened in the last 24 hours. There could be something odd afoot. Keep in
touch if you hear anything substantive. You can call me at 215-854-2466.

That's exactly what it is–a rumor. There's only two bidders, neither of which
are named CEA.

I am not so sure Tim.

You sound pretty sure that there're only two bidders. What about
AmigaWorld's own hotline stating on October 5th that a German group has
entered the bidding?
— Tom
As of Friday, the field had narrowed down to two bidders again. Unless
there's a last-minute wildcard entry, it's just CEI and C= UK.
Tim
I'm not so sure we are just talking about two parties at this point.
Escom may be in there somewhere.
— Dan
Wow! Down to two again — it's amazing how volatile this situation is.
Thanks for the update.

I talked to CEI yesterday (10/17) and they indicate that since the bid went to
open auction they made a higher bid than C=UK and should be the winner, taking
over in about three weeks. By the way, they believed that Donald Pleasance was
acting on behalf of a Chinese group, not for C=UK.

Henry,
C=UK doesn't really exist…Pleasance was head of a management group
from C=UK who were trying to buy the assets…he did admit to having other
outside investors…which could have been the Chinese group you're thinking of.
Hi Hank. Just an FYI… *Donald* Pleasance is a famous actor in many films
including a James Bond one (he played Blofeld [sp?]). At C=UK, it's *David*
Pleasance.
It's funner to call him Donald, though. I keep picturing him in the
'Halloween' movies warning people:
1) The overpowering evil that will soon descend on us
2) Only the Amiga can stop it!
😉

The real question is when will we see machines….

don't hold your breath, unfortunately – it'll probably take months. Everyone's
been REAL optimistic about how soon a takeover would happen and it's stretched
to 6 months now. I hope systems show up tomorrow (everyone does) but I hope we
all can start getting more realistic after the experience with our recent
unbridled optimism. Let's all hope no silly mistakes are made rushing systems
once takeover is really a fact. Whomever does this MUST get it right the first
time. Three cheers for whomever takes on this important task.
Tim,
While I didn't speak with the trustee on Friday I do know who Escom was
having meetings with most of last week. If they dropped out it would be
surpising considering the time, money, and level of involvment they've
recently devoted to the process.
