#Off Line Readers

Is anyone using one of the Offline Amiga programs for reading QWK type
messages off of bulletin boards. I've tried AMI-QWK, and MS_QWK, and
neither one seems to be able to unpack a mail packet.
I've tried putting my LHA and ZIP files in the Path statement, I've tried
putting them in a directory "assigned" as a drive, I've tried putting them
in the directory with the software, and in the directory with the
messages, all to no avail. I always get an unknown command reply, and
have checked my commands and assignments over, and over.
I'm using a 3000 25 mhz with 6 meg of ram and WB 2.04.

I've been using AmiQWK successfully. I've got a c directory on my Work:
partition that contains the archiver programs and Work:c is in my path.
That got me exactly the results you describe. So… I added to my
user-startup
assign c: Work:c add
Then it worked. So AmiQWK explicitly requests unzip from c:. At least it's
nice enough to respect extended assigns and it hasn't done any bad things
to me. I expect to soon send Jim Dawson my money. I think it's nicely done
and it would be nice to see it developed more.

Thanks for the tip. AmiQWK is up and running for me now. Would have been
nice for that bit of information to be in the Docs someplace. Personally,
I had a Directory on one of my partitions called Compression. In there
were all my various packer and unpacker programs. Even had an assign for
Compression: as well as having it in the path. That way I could keep
track of what all I had. But AmiQWK doesn't like that idea, even if you
put the path in the config. So far MS_QWK, and Offline have not responded
to that trick, but at least I can read the QWK mail now. Thanks again.
I use Ami-Qwk. I the only path I have is 'c:lz x' but I really don't need
the 'c:'. Are you putting in the arguments (lha x; lha a; etc.) The 'x'
and 'a' are important. Are you compression programs (zip, lha, etc.) in
your c: directory?
Do you use snoopdos? I have found that to be a great help when it comes
to this type of problem.

Don't have snoopdos, guess I'll have to round it up. Is it commercial or
shareware?
Thanks for the tip on where I must have my packers. I had them in a
special directory, but I guess the author assumed that everybody would put
their packers where he did. Now I'm forced to. Not thrilled about it,
but I'll live.
