#IDEK Monitor ???

I am considering getting a IDEK 5017 monitor for my Amiga. I have
some questions I hope some one can help me with. My system is an Amiga
2000 with 14meg of memory 2meg chip. I have a 68030 and an Opalvision
graphics card. I am running 3.1.
1. Are the controls on the monitor on the front of the monitor?
2. Will it work with my Opalvision?
3. What graphics card, that does not use the video slot, would you
recommend to use with this monitor?

It depends which model IDEK 5017. There is one that scans down to 15khz
and the other I believe only scans down to 31khz VGA type resolution. The
model I have scans down to 15khz and has the controls on the front of it.
I use it in an A4000/040 along with a Picasso II board. It works fine
with both. If you purchase the 31khz version you can only use it with a
flicker ficker type device on your A2000.
I don't know what the Opalvision board outputs 15khz?
I use the Picasso II and it works great! :).

Actually, the 5017 is the model that scans to 15KHz. The 5317 goes to
30KHz. There are two models of the 5017, though, one with high
persistence phosphor and the other with normal persistence. If you do
lots of animation, the high persistence phosphor will give you trails.
Otherwise, it helps with interlace screens, though usually not a
substitute for de-interlacing hardware. I have one on my 4000, and I
found that Super72 super-hires interlace is totally useable with it.
After a few minutes I don't notice the interlace. But that's me 🙂

What is the dot pitch for your Idek 5017? Also is the tube used in it one
of the "flat square types"?

These are the controls featured up-front of the monitor.
-Brightness
-Contrast
-Vertical Height
-Vertical Center
-Horizontal Width
-Horizontal Center (or H Phase)
oh, and the on/off switch.
I use the Idek on an A2000 with a Video Toaster. Because of the Toaster, I
need a Sync Strainer. Otherwise, you should be fine. On the other hand,
I've never used Opalvision hardware before, so maybe someone else can
chime in.

I have an Idek MF-5017. My system includes A2000, 68040 with 16 megs ram,
2 megs chip ram, Opalvision and still with 2.1 (have the new 3.1 set but
havent taken the time to install yet.
I have a PicassoII with 2 megs of ram.
The 5017 controls for brightness and contrast, as well as vertical and
horizontal adjustment are in front. The system works well. The only
problem I have (and it is a trivial one) is that on running certain
programs, the screen shifts a little bit and I have to manually adjust. I
use OpalPaint frequently and it works well.

Do you need to use an sort of AB switch with the PicassoII and the
Opalvison?
Do I need to get any sort of cables other then what comes with the IDEK
monitor or the PicassoII?
What are the advatages of PicassoII over the other graphics cards?

You do not need a switcher with PicassoII and OpalVision,
A 15 pin male to male cable comes with PicassoII. You need a 15 to 23 male
to male cable, to plug the OpalVision board into the Picasso. The Picasso
cable goes from it to your Idek monitor.
I can't really comment on other graphics cards since I have no experience
with other ones. However I have been very pleased with the Picasso.
