Anyone else using the Wacom ArtPad with 3DS. I love it in Windows, but
because it is pressure sensitive you really have to press hard to get
things to work in 3DS. They (Wacom) said they know this (as of a week
ago) wondered if anyone had heard of new drivers and or
solutions/alternatives. I am still within my 30 days and can return
the ArtPad if anyone know of a comparable device in the same price
range. Paul
I just took a look at an old Wacom tablet–a 12"x18" selling for
$399–with a different sensitivity in the pen pressure. Unfortunately
I couldn't demo it and have no idea how it works on 3DS. I've just
started looking due to a wrist problem I'm developing in my mouse
hand. If you learn anything about changing the Wacom setup to better
suit 3DS I'd be interested. I'll keep my eyes open as well.
I recently got a Wacom SD 421E. Only have pressure pen at the moment.
That is a prob for 3DS. I can run the tablet in Mouse emulation mode
but it is useless because there is no way to exit out of the
commands: 2Dshaper create/line, 2Dshaper create/freehand. Also there
will be problem in 2Dlofter if doing path spline changes or vertex
moving. I believe if I had a standard stylus these probs would go
away.
Also note: I received a msg from Nigel Baylis, Wacom Germany, explaining the
option of using the tablet in Summagraphics 1201 mode. I have yet to get this
to function either. So, think, observe and buy carefully! As was once said,
"Caveat Emptor".

Wrist problems…you and I are in the same boat. Seems whether I like
a tablet or not I will have to grin and bear it until I get used to
it. Still haven't gotten a workaround on the 3DS issue but I am still
searching. Wacom has commented to me that they are aware of the
problem. THey also responded to a question I had about the 1 button
stylus and they said they are working on a multiple button pen. Paul

I am about to buy a Kurta XGT 6X8 cordless, have heard good responses from
other 3DSers. But I won't know until it gets here and I try it out.

PS. I thought you were just modeling wrists for medical applications not to
self-diagnose your own hand 😉

Maybe I spent so much time modeling carpal tunnel syndrome I developed it by
power of suggestion. Well, it isn't that bad yet, but can't afford to pull up
lame now. I am gonna stick with the Wacom tablet. The company seems to be
determined to work out any bugs.

I'm using the SD421E (pressure sensitive and electrostatic) and haven't touched
a mouse in over a year (probbly won't ever again either). It works just fine
with everything I got, including 3D-Studio.
I don't know what drivers you are using, but if they don't want to work for
you, try to set up just the WMOUSE driver, and your tablet should work like any
other mouse in 3D-Studio. If you can switch to Summagraphics mode, then just
use that.
