I've been thinking about posting a notice here and now that I see the message about the Mineralogical Society Show I realize it's OK and wish I'd done it sooner. Oh well, here it is with a rundown of what's happening. The American Opal Society's 28th annual OPAL SHOW is coming up in two weeks, November 5-6, 1994. Location is the Quality Inn in Anaheim, California. Address is 626 Convention Center Way, in the Anaheim Convention Center complex on the south westcorner of Katella Ave. and Harbor Blvd. That's directly south of the Disneyland parking lot. Show hours are Saturday 11/5 10AM-6PM and Sunday 11/6 10AM-5PM. Admission is $3.50 per person. Show guests interested in joining the Opal Society will get a break on annual membership dues for joining at the show. The emphasis of the show is opal for sale: opal jewelry, finished stones, opal rough from various opal sources around the world, and synthetic opal. There will also be equipment and lapidary supplies distributors represented, a gem identification booth, and wire wrapping of stones while you wait. Scheduled demonstration booths include opal cabbing, stone carving, relief carving, polishing, wire wrapping, beading and faceting. Videotapes of Len Cram's visits and presentations earlier this year will be running continuously during the show. Had it occurred to me I would have posted notes here about these talks. Len is perhaps the world's best opal photographer and has photographed many of the world's finest Lightning Ridge black opals. But perhaps more importantly he has been quite successful in experiments growing opal. On the video he discusses his theories and results as well as showing a portion of his collection of slides of finished stones. Room reservations for anyone interested in visiting from out of town are available at the Convention Center Inn next door. There are many other nearby motels in the vicinity of Disneyland. If anyone has any questions or is interested in further information about the Opal Show or the American Opal Society you may write AOS, P.O. Box 382, Anaheim, CA 92815 or you may contact me here via email… -Russ AOS secretary and bulletin editor

Thanks Guy… I have a severe schedule conflict with the show weekend but am hoping to be there on Sunday for a while…I'll keep a lookout for Bob. He is on the mailing list for dealers but I don't think he has a booth at the show this year. -Russ

Hi, Russ > …I'll keep a lookout for Bob. He is on the mailing list for dealers but I > don't think he has a booth at the show this year. Yeah, It's been a while since I've seen one of his ads. Ever since his wife (my sister) died a few years ago he's restructured the business. If you see him, say Hi, but don't knock yourself out looking for him. Thanks, Guy

Thanks for posting. This is right in my neighborhood, and opal is my favorite gem. Now if I can just find a couple hours… — E.
