There has been lots of talk about the new features of 3DSR4, One thing, however I find still unknown is how does R4 rate in production rendering speed compered with 3DSR3. Rendering final animations has allways been the bottle-neck of any 3D packege?

Ken, >> One thing, however I find still unknown is how does R4 rate in production rendering speed compered with 3DSR3. << if it's not in the feature list it hasn't changed.

I don't think any changes were made to the renderer in R4. John Tissavary | LUNA cie, inc

I rendered the 57 chevy from ver.3 and ver.4 and there were no speed differences. So I dont think they have changed the speed of the render.

I assume this is Greg Daly (please sign your message, if so), >> So I dont think they have changed the speed of the render. << no, but here's a couple of tests to show where the dramatic speed improvements are: 1) Create a cube. Make a linear array of 999 of them. Now would be a good time to lunch (if using r3). With r4 don't bother getting out of your chair. 2) Hide all. Unhide all. Once again take a coffee break with r3. With r4 it's done faster than I can type "this". 3) Select all. Move object/selected. Come back tomorrow morning it should be done with r3. With r4, not even time to go to the bathroom. If you really want some fun and like watching your monitor do nothing for hours (with r3), do the above tests with 5000 objects. Martin

Sorry about the logon name but this is a Graphix Zone account. Anway, yes I agree that the hide/unhide, array, moving selected objects, and other things are much faster the v.3 but the render speed is about the same. -Gregg Daly

Greg, >> but the render speed is about the same. << that's right, but then nobody has ever claimed otherwise. At least, nobody from Adesk/Yost Group.

yes, I know nobody has claimed otherwise, but the original message was asking is the render speed has been improved.
