#Twisting

I was wondering if the YOST twist IPAS has the ability to define spline twist
amounts for the length of the twist axis. I have written my own simple twist
program that just linearly twists objects. But I am working on one that you
set the twist amount using splines(like in the lofter) and the axis of twist
can be rotated to any angle. If the Yost twist can do this then I don't want to
waste my time.
I used the FFD IPAS (free-form deformation?) to twist an object. I selected the
top layer of verts & rotated them 90 degrees, then the next to top and rotated
them 60 degrees etc… I made a couple twists and they are very nice,
especially because of the spline functioning of the IPAS.
linear twists are no good, spline control is necessary. The picture of the
twisted 'M' I have from the YOST IPAS ad looks linear, like the ones I produced
with my early program. But the ad said there is some kind of bias control.
Any clarity on this subject would help.

Our twist.pxp on disk3 only does linear twists. The bias control is for
biasing the center of the twist from one end to the other.
Your spline twist sounds like a hit. Have you seen the real-time rendering
library that we uploaded to the developer section? A spline twister with rt
preview would be a blast.

I couldn't find the real time rendering library. What is the file name
for it? I'll be purchasing an IPAS dev. kit soon and I never thought
a PC had the power to do real time. I saw a preview of R4 at a
seminar a while ago and was amazed at how fast it rendered the shaded
man in the IK module.
Thanks for the info.———————————() Will
Hi Will,

The source code was made available by Gary to individuals participating in the
Autodesk MultiMedia Developer Program. It is found in the MM DEV Section of the
lib. Download the following to see if you qualify for this program…
