<<Also, when will there be drivers for AutoCAD for windows that run under NT? How about intigrated ACAD Windows drivers that do the rendering in the program itself? Is there any way to tell ACAD to use the MGA hardware for the "render", "shade" and "hide" commands? (maybe a good addition to the next revision??!!) How about having 3D Studio use the IMP + hardware for "QUICK"!! previews??>> I posted this in the matrox forum and recieved a response saying that there was no way to tell acad to use the hardware. could this be added to 3d studio some how? It seems that 3d hardware will be come more and more common place and it would be a good idea to get on this bandwagon early. thanks :') kirk

Hi Kirk, << ACAD and 3D.. >> Is this an ACAD wish? If so, please post it in the ACAD forum. If it's 3ds related.. I'm a little confused. Could you please elaborate. jonas[adesk]

Both, I posted it in both places as it really applies to both programs – in different ways. I have a Matrox IMP + with built in 3d hardware shading – really cool. Any way, is it possible to open some hooks so the programers at Matrox could tell 3DS to use the built in hardware for previews? However fast the previews are created I think that the Matrox board could do them in hardware faster – it can take a fairly complex drawing and shade it in near real time. I asked Matrox if this was a possiblity and they said it would be no problem if 3DS had a way for them to tell it to use the hardware. I just thought that it was a good idea – previews are really the only way 3DS could benifit from this board, it can not do texture mapping or anything but maybe the next one will be able to. It might not be a bad idea to start trying now. Thanks Kirk

Hi Kirk, I just got that same board for the same exact reason, but now I find out that the only way to get "real-time" shading is through their OWN CAD program?! Please let me know if this is true or not. Maybe I'm just confused. I hope that I CAN see some quick renderings in 3DS or at least view some geometries in realtime in ACAD. I'd appreciate a clarification. Thank you. Alex Karamanoglou

Pavel Korensky wrote a .PXP that uses MGA Impression hardware to render real-time scene previews. I believe it's available for free in the libraries. If not, drop him a line. I don't know if it'll work on the plus, though, since this is a different card. John Tissavary | LUNA cie, inc

You can do realtime rendering in the dos version of autocad. The windows version is a bit different and it is my understanding that the next version of the drivers will have built in support so you'll be able to do everything inside acad. As far as I can see there is nothing (other than the above note – which I couldn't find) that makes it any better or worse for 3ds at this time. Let me know if you can find that PXP I'd like to try it out. Keep in touch – isn't that little board a sweetheart?? Kirk :')

I'm telling you, this sucks. But I guess that if we're patient, we'll eventually get what we need. I cartainly hope that they come out with these drivers pretty soon. >Keep in touch – isn't that little board a sweetheart?? Absolutely, I'll keep in touch. And yes, I love the board. I got it with only 2MB, but it is simply lightning fast. I can't wait to get all the other accessories that they have for it, like that special bus connector. Although, it would be nice if the software makers made the programs to take advantage of these advances in hardware. Ok I'll talk to you later… Alex K.

you might just want to drop Matrox a line to let them know that you're interested so I'm not the only one asking for this stuff. I asked in the ACAD forum if they could allow matrox to hook into acad but I haven't heard anything yet. See ya :') Kirk

Hi Kirk, Actually, I have already. But they're somewhat unresponsive. Talk to you later… Alex K.
