Just to let you all know.
A NEW Forum has now been formed on CIS. It is the DESKTOP VIDEO Forum. Just
got going. To get there:-

I noticed that you posted one of the first messages in the new forum, Hilary.

No… I will not desert Amiga Betty.
What I think is good, is the fact that it may bring together folk who
use various DeskTop systems – not just one.
The strange thing is that for years the video industry have used all
sorts of gadgets for titles, graphics and EFX…. but they were not
called computers, although essentially they were just that. It is
only recently (last 5 years) that some bright spark recognized the
fact that computers and video processing were essentially members of
the same family.
Pre Amiga, I had a SONY SMG-70G computer. This was built and designed
for video, much like the Amiga. It used CP/M language. It was the
FIRST computer to then use the new SONY 3.5 inch disks.

I didn't think you'd desert your Amiga….but don't desert the AmigaForum,
either!
I agree with you that Steve had a great idea when he suggested this
new forum, and I feel sure it will be a large and active one once the
word gets around.
I will be around the Amiga Forums Betty… especially when the usual
"disasters" strike!
Understand that the Smithsonian is clearing a little corner in their
establishment, which will be called "Ancient Computers of a Byegone
Age". <g>
I think it a good idea for them to have such a corner, Hilary – but I
don't want my AMIGA in it!
You don't want your Amiga in it Betty ? Is that because you don't use the
machine for video… or for some other reason ?
From the video production standpoint, I think it will be a good
melting pot. It will give Amiga video folk a look at other systems.
This will be important if indeed we have seen the last of the Amiga –
at least in Commodore's hands. In my view the "purpose" of the
computer is more important than the computer itself. In my case the
Amiga is dedicated ONLY to video… where it has proved excellent.
Aha!! I caught you, Hilary! Your message was about a corner in the
Smithsonian for antique computers from bygone days. And THAT is the
corner in which I don't want to see my Amiga. I want it to be
supported and improved.
Betty…. I do know how you adore your little ticking Amiga. Indeed I
would never try to come between you and the little darling – I would
even go so far as to give it a little pat on the case if I was in
your vicinity.
But Betty dear, the lifeline of food which keeps your adored alive is
fast dwindling… and subject to attack by the upstart PC tribe, and
the warlike Mac clan from Scotland. They are gleefully watching
hidden in their tents. I was only thinking of giving the little
fellow a nice warm and cozy home within the hallowed brick walls of
the Smithsonian. Imagine the delighted hordes of admirers passing
by… tickling his little keys… never to die.
Perhaps some day, Hilary….but not before its time!

I bet when you look at a glorious sunset…. there in the middle of
the picture… is a glowing Amiga!
I've heard there a MindSet PC on display in The Smithsonion for its
asthetic values. An A1000 would probaly make it look bad. We couldn't
have that now ;^)
It is my understanding that there has been a lot of discission about
the placement of the Amiga family in the Smithsonian.
So far… the probable placement will be in a little niche on the west
wall… so the setting sun can fall upon the display. It will have
a well printed title card "Things that could have been". It will
have a black edge.
Betty, How do I get my AutoPilot to permanently add Desktop Video to my
forums?

I just chose the ADD a Forum button on the main screen, and typed
DTVForum in the blank, and it added it.
Geeze! Wish I had known about that DeskTop Video forum a couple of
hours ago, before I did my "official" message passes in the home
forums. Oh well, if ya get someone over here lost who says some
"idiot" from the Graphics area sent him here looking for A/B roll
editing and computer connection information, just shoot him over
there <grin>. Thanks for the information, Hilary. Guess I've got to
get back here more often to keep up with what is going on in the
virtual world <g>. Best of the holiday season to you and yours.

I greatly reduced my 'phone time (and bills) on CIS by the use of the
"Navigator" program. Reduction was around 50%.
The new Forum is NEW… and it may bring together many of the
proponents of various systems…. not only Amiga. I think (and hope)
it will prove interesting.
I use Autopilot meself.
