#hide object with opacity

we try to hide objects with opacity-map ( vary.sxp, black-to-white flic ), but our objects are always with about 10% visible. any idea? regards franz

Franz, 1.) Copy your opacity map to the shininess slot for the materials that fade in and out. What may be visible is the specular highlight of the material. The shininess map will regulate this highlight. 2.) Use the key dialog tracks to add hide/unhide keys for when the objects are supposed to be totally invisible. This will guarantee that your objects will be invisible, and saves rendering time, as 3DS doesn't have to try to render the invisible object. Paul S.

paul, you right! copy the opacity map to the shininess slot and you don't need to morph the materials of objects (how we done in two hard nights). thanks franz

Just a quick thought…could your problem be related to "superblack" in the options window? I know that matte objects are slightly visible when rendering using "superblack". If I use a matte (over a black background) or your mentioned opacity/vary.sxp technique, I never render over superblack. Good luck, Chris
