#hide object with opacity
5 messages in this thread
we try to hide objects with opacity-map ( vary.sxp, black-to-white flic ), but
our objects are always with about 10% visible.
any idea?

Franz,
1.) Copy your opacity map to the shininess slot for the materials that fade in
and out. What may be visible is the specular highlight of the material. The
shininess map will regulate this highlight.
2.) Use the key dialog tracks to add hide/unhide keys for when the objects are
supposed to be totally invisible. This will guarantee that your objects will
be invisible, and saves rendering time, as 3DS doesn't have to try to render
the invisible object.

paul,
you right!
copy the opacity map to the shininess slot and you don't need to morph the
materials of objects (how we done in two hard nights).
thanks franz
Franz,
Glad to help!

Just a quick thought…could your problem be related to "superblack" in the
options window? I know that matte objects are slightly visible when rendering
using "superblack". If I use a matte (over a black background) or your
mentioned opacity/vary.sxp technique, I never render over superblack.
Good luck,
Chris
