I'm an architect using 3ds daily for schematic design. I rely heavily on
boolean operations for quick modeling of orthogonal planes, punching
openings then stretching them then adding more. My problem is that after the
first pass, the booleans become less and less predictable until
it becomes completely useless. I've never had any problem with this in
AutoCAD w/ AME?
Michael, 3DS' and Autocads booleans are completely different in how they work.
3DS is a surface modeler while AME is a solids modelere. Much different for
booleans. Doing a boolean on an arbitrary surface is not an easy task and
that's where your problems are arising. The next release of 3DS may help with
this but it's hard to say. If you ned to keep getting consistently perfect
booleans then you should stay in AME for now.

That's right.
I'm working on buildings for architects and I always modelize my buildings with
AME ( it's great for windows, "balcons" and so on ).
then, all the other objets are created with 3ds.
( sorry for my "inglish", I'm a poor little french man ).
