#Rotate Error in KF

Project: Large Venetian Blinds with individual "Slats"
Objective: Rotate Slats 180 degrees over 250 frames
1. I assigned a dummy to the center of each slat and linked slat to dummy.
2. Advanced to frame 250 and rotated dummy 180 degrees around X axis for
opening effect.
3. Resulting rotation is around _All_ axis. Dummy and slat tumbles around XYZ.
This stumped me for some time and finally found the problem. _Angle Snap_
When angle snap was activated (set to 10 degrees in Drawing Aids) and I did a
180 rotation…big problem. I deactivated the Angle snap and put it back to
180…No Problem.
Further test showed that screw up only happened at 180 degrees with Angle snap
set to 15 or Less. Larger Snap angles (60) produced predictable results. Not
using Angle Snap always worked.
I hope I am being clear here. I will upload file on request for your review.
Is this a known bug? I have no other explaination.

Couldn't you make one slat, set the motion, and make instance copies of it?
That way you won't have to rotate each one individually.

Absolutely. I needed individual control of the slats to produce wave effects.
The problem was the "whirlybird" effect around XYZ when I rotated 180 with the
Angle snap set to "on" and angle set to 15 (or less) in Drawing Aids.

I, too, have on occasion noticed various weirdnesses when rotating something
180 degrees in one swell foop… My simple-minded solution: an intermediate
keyframe at 90 degrees.

I was able to overcome this problem by simply turning Angle Snap off and then
rotating 180. I found a solution, but thought the problem should be mentioned
here. I am glad to see I am not the only one experiencing problems with the 180
rotate, I thought my .exe might have gone south. I sent a copy of the project
to YG yesterday for review.
BTW, What is a "swell foop"?
Thanks for jumpin in-

Hi Mike,
<< I sent a copy of the project to YG yesterday for review. >>
Did you upload it here? Gary's a bit busy with MAX now. You may get a better
response by uploading it here.

Hi Jonas:
I will upload here today. I did not have your address handy and decided to
forward to YG. I asked them to forward to you, but I am sure this will be
faster. Take a look, the file is ADESK.ZIP. It includes a .txt file describing
the problems and how to reproduce them. Let us know what happens.
Mike
Just uploaded the Adesk.zip file to library 4. Meshes/Projects.
'Swell foop' is a (I think the right word) malapropism for 'fell swoop'.
That sounds like a neat idea (wave motion in rotating venetian blinds)… Glad
you were able to solve it.
