#MGA Millennium Drivers

I know this may be a question for my dealer, but they don't have a clue about
whats going on. I'm looking for some information on the status of the ver 1.08
vibrant drivers for the MGA Mil. I bought it about two months ago and have been
looking for them since then. I upgraded from the impression plus but have taken
a tamporary step back into the dark ages of ADI drives to limp through 3DS. I
finally got through to Vibrant. They told me that they had already handed the
drivers over to ADESK several weeks ago . Matrox and Vibrant both told me 2
weeks every single time I called over the last month. I called again today,
They said 2 weeks. So I need to know If and When ADESK plans to release them.
My Business and Productivity are perishing. If this is going to take awhile.
I'll switch back to my Impression Plus.

This is not true. 1.08 has not been handed over to Adesk yet, but we're waiting
for it.

Jonas,
I think we (Vibrant) may have confused some customers by mistakenly telling
them that we had handed over 1.08 drivers to Autodesk. We have handed over
some patches/fixes for specific video cards (not MGA Mil) to Autodesk for
testing/evaluation. As that these specific files will be incorporated into the
next In-line driver, I think someone here thought that we had done more than we
had. We sorry, we'll try harder to be clearer in the future.

Looks like Mark DeMazza will build us a P133 box with the SuperMICRO CMS mobo.
I hope to get approval to proceed on Thursday. Mark mentioned your MIND 100
was blowing away the rendering records for some 57 Chebby, where is all this
stuff?
Anyway, I had hoped to go with the Matrox Millennium 2 Meg, but heard today
thru the grapevine that maybe it doesn't like co-existing with the PVR or
AD2500. Any opinions on this and which card do you use?

Look for the thread called 3DS benchmark in the section called "Autodesk 3D
Studio", there are maybe two or three different ones. I can't claim the fastest
time ever, there were some P133 and maybe a P120 that were faster. I think I
had the fastest time for a P100, and faster than alot of P120s. There were some
60 messages, so its kind of hard to tell for sure.

I would like to know more about that, can you give any detail as to why? Mark
has applied to DPS for a dealeship, at some point he would know. I chose the
Millennium because of the good words on the forum and Diamond video cards won't
work with a Com 4. Something about the IRQ or memory address.

Right now I have a Hercules Terminator 4mb on loan from Mark til I could make
up my mind. I told him last week I wanted the Millennium 4mb.

This is indeed a disturbing rumor about Milleniums and PVRs. I would definitely
appreciate you passing along any confirmation or denial you run across, since
that's the exact combo I've been looking to put together. Needless to say, I'll
let you know if I find out anything.

Do you have any details about what the problem is? Does this include the PAR or
just the PVR?
I will let you know if I here anything. I have obligated myself to the
Millennium and I want to get a used PAR or new PVR in the future.

Unfortunately, the Millenium problem with PVRs is not a "disturbing rumor" but
a fact of life according to Digital Processing Systems and a few dealers who
also build PVR-oriented PCs. Anyone having any questions should call DPS,
either in Kentucky or Ontario. FWIW, in a private EMail back to me regarding
the problem, Dave White of Matrox didn't even know what the PVR was. Remember,
both Diamond and Creative Labs have just announced new 3d supported cards… so
maybe they could be looked at?

We wound up getting the DPS cards from another source. Mark and I talked about
it, and it seemed like it made sense for now since he didn't seem care if we
waited for him to get the dealership or we got them elsewhere.
I spoke to Dan.x at DPS Canada today and he told me that as of this moment,
he's not comfortable recommending the Matrox since they've had a number of PVR
customers call in with problems. He is recommending the Diamond Stealth 64VRAM
which he knows works. Jamie Carr was using this board in a Raptor 3 at the
Video Expo two weeks ago, and it seemed to perform w/o a glitch.
Dan told me that Matrox had promised someone a "firmware" update for the
Millennium but that's the last he heard about it. While I would've liked to go
the Matrox route for it's added features, I guess I can live with the Diamond.
OTH, I've decided to conduct a "straw poll" here and ask PVR users what they
are using and how well it's performing. If I see that there's a new set of
drivers or chip BIOS for the Matrox that makes it and the PVR happy, then guess
what?
Maybe if you choose the Matrox, Mark will loan me the Hercules till I decide
which way to go <ROFL>! BTW, which drive did you go with? Dan said they
tested the IBM UltraSTAR with high hopes, but it didn't measure up to snuff so
the best drive is still the Micropolis 3243 AV IHHO. Best price we got on that
so far was around $1249 from some mail order house. If we can get it from Mark
at about the same price, I'd rather give him the business.

I will be very interested in the feedback that you get. What is the thread

You must be under the impression that I have a PAR/PVR, in my comments I was
concerned about the number of full length PCI/ISA slots because I wanted to get
one in the future.

I have a nephew that works at Seagate and he couldn't buy the 2.1GB Barracuda
much cheaper than Mark, maybe $50 is all. If you buy it from Mark, then if you
are down and can't get any work out, I think Mark would loan you something to
get you up and running. If you buy it mailorder, then you will have to just
wait till you get it back from being repaired. Something to think about.
Keep me posted if you here any more details about the PAR/PVR conflict with the
Matrox Millennium, thanks.

Thats excellent news!!!
I had already committed myself to buying the Millennium, looks like I made the
right decision. Now if the PVR will just work with the Millennium, rumors say
there might be a problem.

Just another plaintive cry for a Millenium driver. I'm new to the PC/3DS world
and I bought a high-end Pentium from Gateway, thinking it would be peachy.
Well, they happen to ship Milleniums standard and by all accounts it is
becoming a very popular board – please take this vote to raise its priority.

It always puzzles me why users that really on their systems for their income
throw new untested hardware into their production systems. Some people learn it
the hard way. I made the mistake once, I won't make that mistake again. It is
tempting to want to grab the newest wizbang hardware with all the hype, but it
is a dangerous game.

My #9GXE64Pro is the best card I have owned, but it has been replaced by the #9
771 MotionFX card. I don't know if there are Vibrant drivers for the 771. Right
now I would look for a card with 3DS and NT drivers. I like the Millenium and
will probably get one when there are Vibrant drivers.

They do indeed work with the Millenium – I'd have tossed my Gateway back well
before now if I could not have used 3DS at all, but VESA drivers only give you
8 bit color, so the renders & materials editor look sick, and you can't run
IPAS's like KPT or MeshPaint, both of which require 16 bit color.

I'll call Vibrant today and get the scoop. Oh well…at least the games will
