It seems that when I try to run r4 I get a load error "Phar lap err 74:cant use REALBREAK under this ver. of DPMI. then It goes back into win95 and informes me to run r4 in DOS mode, I try this and It resets my computer. WTF. Im severly stuck and it seems that no one else is having the same problem as I am. So if any one out there has any clue as to what the prob. is I would appeciate a reply . <G> James. <G>

James, Check out your System.ini and look if you have device=pharlap.386 under 386Enhanced section.( copy Pharlap.386 to your \Win95\System directory, or use something like this, device=c:\3ds4\pharlap.386) If you didn't have it and just added this line, you should restart Windows. Then checkout the properties of the 3DS and in Memory Tab look for DPMI. It should be AUTO. (At least, mine is this) I just tried 3ds today under Win95 and although it works, sometimes switching back and forth on the programs, it shows strange mouse traces! Hope this helps. Kamran

In addition, the 3D Studio Installation guide contains this information in Ch. 5, Running 3dstudio under Windows 3.1. -Grant Blaha [ADESK]

Grant: What are the advantages or disadvantages of running 3dS under Win 95 or "dos 7". How should it be set up or should we stick with a dual boot up to Win 3.11 with old dos and Win 95 and a separate operating system. rpk@cvmg.com

Hi James, I don't think that you have to add PHARLAP.386 to the system.ini of Windows 95 as it was neccessary with Windows 3.11. I had also the massage concerning REALBRAK, but the solution was quite simple, you just have to change Pharlap configuration by typing in the 3DS directory: CFIG386 3DS.EXE REALBREAK 0 You should now get the message of configured switches of Pharlap. I could even do this in a DOS Box under Windows 95 and 3DS work quite fine, except some timing problems with my video card (Matrox Impression Plus) when switching to Windows screeen & back. Resetting for DOS mode is quite normal, because Windows has to reboot the machine with only DOS 7, so you have to configure own AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS in the properties for 3DS.EXE. Hope that helps, Murat
