#anistud and NT?

will the new release 1.1 run under Windows NT? I don't plan on getting Win95
ever. I'm running NT 3.51 with the Win95 shell and would be interested in the
upgrade only if it will run in NT. TIA.

while Autodesk does not comment on the future of Autodesk products, i will say
that the R1c1 release is a Win95 version, but has been tested by many under Nt
and seems very stable. i will also add that 3D Studio MAX will be an NT product
when it ships… and AAS would compliment it very well… if anything, you will
likely see many posts on what it takes to get AAS Win95 running smoothly under
Nt if this is possible.

Dave,

That's all I needed to know. I'll order the upgrade and give it a shot then.
Thanks for the reply.

my pleasure, Martin.

Windows NT is a much better operating system than '95 anyway.
Mico$oft is supposed to standardize 32bit conventions. The next release of NT
will have the '95 interface. For professional use, I strongly recommend use NT
over '95.

I know, I'm already using Win NT with the 95 shell and Iike the environment a
great deal. I run Photoshop in NT already and love it.
PMJI – I was crushed to read in InfoWorld last week (or the week before) that
His Billness has decided not to converge Win95 and NT at all, where previously
they were talking about a 3 year convergence. That's a bummer, as NT is *way*
better than Win95…
David,
>> that His Billness has decided not to converge Win95 and NT at all <<
say it isn't so! <choke>
I *could* say it isn't so, but I'm not sure what good that would do. He must
have decided he needed a little more money and that keeping NT and Win95
distinct was a good way to guarantee that… Th' baw-stid!

yeah, Bill's a bit short on cash. I lent him a fiver a couple of weeks ago and
he still hasn't paid me back. <g>.
Anyway, I don't care I'm an NT kindof guy …. Win95 is for poofters <g>.

and… you're surprised by this? <g>

Nah, not once I thought about all those revenues…
I think Micro$oft will probably phase out '95. Micro$oft solution providers
will recommend NT for business's just about across the board. '95 is really
geared for the home computer. NT is M$'s flagship of the future.
Mac System was ahead of it's time, but now it's lacking compared with something
like NT. Soon, NT will not support any network protocols but for TCP/IP. What
does this mean to you and I? Welcome to the world of UNIX (eek)! This is great
if you ask me. Unix without a million different shells, but DOS commands!
UNIX without having to have a PH.D.! And soon, UNIX _Power_!
True, a RISC processor is going to have ramifications in drive space / memory
requirements, but the performance is well worth it.
And trust me, the _greatest_ thing about 3DS going NT is this.
They can recompile it for optimization for future CPU's easily.
Imagine if they compiled NT to run on, say… SGI's! Yost would only have to
change some of C++'s API Calling conventions, and wammo!!

i agree. somehow i just don't see MS pushing Win95 in Win1996. <ggg>

Beta forms for Win96 were very recently sent out to Microsoft development
personages, according to InfoWorld this week.

so's i heard. heavens. back to NT coding work i go. <g>

I think this is just what M. Gates has decided *not* to do, in order to keep
those $99 drops dripping in from the home and school computer market.
I like the "95" interface but love the stability of
WINNT,, you mentioned that you use a win95
shell for WINNT,,, could you pass on some
information on what it is and where to get it,,
it sounds like a good solution until the next version
of NT comes out..
Thanks
David
go "msdr" (Microsoft Developers forum) and download i386-sh.zip – it's beta
software but pretty solid.
Hey, thanks for the tip, Martin. I didn't realize one could just download the
interface. Tres cool.
Thanks,,
I'll give it a try,,,
