Hello I have just discover through contacting OpalTech, that there is a BBS for Amiga OpalVision oowners, but when I call the line just rings endlessly. How is an owner of this product suppose to update his hardware if he can't get though. Do you know how to get to this BBS? My other concern is that when the operator for OpalTech connected me with Tech Support, I heard nothing but sales for Mac Systems, NO AMIGA stuff. Did I miss something with OpalTech and have they too abandon the Amiga users who purchased this graphics board. A fellow Amigian Drifting at sea.

Gregory, <I have just discover through contacting OpalTech, that there is a BBS for Amiga OpalVision oowners, but when I call the line just rings endlessly. How is an owner of this product suppose to update his hardware if he can't get though. Do you know how to get to this BBS?> Unforutnately the BBS is down and Centaur didn't know when or if it was going back up. I'm not sure what you mean about "updating hardware". There is only one version of the Opalboard, and the Video Processor isn't shipping yet, so I don't know what hardware you would want to upgrade. As for upgrading software, there should be a new version of OpalPaint (2.3c, or 2.4, not sure about the number) within the next month or two. I've heard that it may be uploaded to Aminet, and that the BBS may go back up when it's ready. <My other concern is that when the operator for OpalTech connected me with Tech Support, I heard nothing but sales for Mac Systems, NO AMIGA stuff. Did I miss something with OpalTech and have they too abandon the Amiga users who purchased this graphics board.> Centaur may not be as healthy as they once were, but they're still hanging on. The problem with the operator is that I think she thought you wanted sales, and that is now taken care of by Creative (the same person owns both businesses but they are separate). I had that same problem when I was calling regarding the OpalPaint upgrade; it was sad to hear. I actually got a sales person who implied that there weren't any OpalBoards for sale. When I called back and explained myself to the operator (Francis) I was told to call back in a few days and when I did, I talked to John Seivers (ext 5701). The news isn't the best, but they are still alive for the time being. Keep in mine, Centaur doesn't make any products for any other platform. They don't have the option to make some money by selling OpalPaint on the Mac or on clones. Things have been extremely tight, and they've had some serious problems with their modules. Give them a call in a few weeks (I'm sure they'll know more then). In the meantime, keep a good thought! <g> Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha
