Jeff,
That is right! Perhaps the higher price is for "shipping" and handling or
something like that?

Nah, it'll be because someone decided L299 was too cheap so they may as well go
for L399 and push the bundled software angle rather than sell it at L349.

That *might* have been true, until the proce of the 3do dropped to L299, and
PlayStation et al. weighed in at a similar price. I think L350 would have been
bearable, but L400 for a 2mb machine? It is all but unusable for anything more
than the smallest of projects with that, but I guess you know that.
"Dog Day Afternoon" just about sums the situation up.

By "too cheap" I meant that someone had decided that they couldn't afford to
sell them at L299 because they cost more than that to make and get to market,
*not* that it would be perceived as too cheap by the Great Unwashed.
My guess is that before long (next spring/summer) there will be only the
A1200HD model (or maybe an A1300CD model), and that will weigh in at L399.
Now, where *did* I put that crystal ball….?

Now *that's* something to hope for!

Actually, it's probably a pipedream, although AT has talked of altering the
motherboard so an external CD-ROM can be plugged in without taking up the
PCMCIA or trap-door.
I still reckon all Amigas will come with hard drives as standard before the end
of next year though.
