It was announced today (17 Oct) on UK National Radio (Classic FM Business News)
that AT had placed a contract worth 20M pounds sterling with a British firm,
Microvitec for Amiga monitors.
Maybe AT are serious about restarting Amiga production after all…..

Hmmmmm. Sounds like 100,000 monitors at the retail price. (I'm
converting to Canadian dollars and assuming a retail price of 420
"beaverbucks") Perhaps 140,000 at the wholesale price???

Spot on, Stuart. The contract is for 100,000 monitors overall, some 12,000
before the end of the year I believe.

It may be more serious than we want when everyone is racing to get their
Amigas; choking supply, demand raising prices, etc…

etc…<< I doubt very much that a healthy demand can in any way hurt the
Amiga. More demand = more production and ultimately lower prices due to
increased volume of sales to offset startup costs.

never meant that it would hurt the Amiga just us; the Amiga consumers, who
endeavor to buy their new 1200/4000. Since they're selling completely off the
shelves before we get ours, we settle for that higher priced Amiga because a
dealer has one in stock. -Joe

I still think that the more Amigas sell the faster the prices will come
down. Probably not for this first run but if AT has good sales and can order
parts in quantity for the next run it will help lower the costs.

I would rather see the above "problem" than some of the others that
might/could happen! Besides, if demand is that high, I would imagine prices
would be lowered rather than raised.

Then what happened to the automobile. Demand increases yearly but now it's
$10K, $20K, $30K…+ for a new one. Say the Amiga does reach this point, prices
will fall under two circumstances. 1) Supply – components to build and/or
Amigas themselves become so abundant that it drives prices down. 2) Competition
– copious Amiga clones hammering out of the stores drives prices down. This
would be a fantastic possibility. -Joe
