#Bad sector lockout?
7 messages in this thread
Does anyone know of a shareware program that will lock out bad sectors on a
hard disk? I think Quarterback tools will do it, but it's a little pricey for
ONE bad sector…
HDToolBox…
This is CBM's hard drive utility, it will Prep, partition, and even mark bad
blocks out of service (even surviving a FORMAT). Make sure you set the correct
device for your controller in the tool types. Once running, select VERIFY DATA
ON DRIVE option, and it will report any bad blocks found. Before you quit, IF
the SAVE CHANGES TO DRIVE gadget isnt ghosted, then click on it and your drive
should be cured…

Thanks Anthony. I didn't know that HDToolbox had that capability. I'll give it
a try. Beats buying a new drive! Michael.
I've never had that problem, but doesn't the HD toolbox that comes with OS
2.0 -> do that? I thought there was an option to map bad sectors…

I'll give HDToolbox a try, James. I had tried a program called NoErrors, which
I think was written by Nic Wilson, but it kept hanging on me.

HDToolBox can do this for you. It comes with the OS but I don't kow from which
version.
