I downloaded the StarTrek game STGAME.DMS and STDATA.DMS, but haven't been able to decompress with Lha. What does the .dms file extension mean; Do I need another utility to do the job? Thanks, Tim K

You need to download Disk Masher. .DMS is the extension for DM. It is a compression program for the Amiga that will compress and decompress entire 880K floppies. Cheers, Stan Happiness is just a render away…

The .DMS extension tells you that these were compressed with the DMS compression scheme. Look in the Archivers library of AmigaUser for the DMS program. Just search with DMS for the keyword and it will come right up for you. —Betty

Tim, <I downloaded the StarTrek game STGAME.DMS and STDATA.DMS, but haven't been able to decompress with Lha. What does the .dms file extension mean; Do I need another utility to do the job?> Files with the extension .dms need diskmasher. You can find that in the AmigaUser library (archivers/crunchers) #14 as DMS201.SFX. It is self extracting. Copy it to ram:, go to ram:, on a shell line type: DMS201.SFX and it will unpack itself. Copy DMS to your c: directory. Be sure to read the docs as Diskmashing isn't as straight forward as LHA or other compressors. There are several GUI front ends for DMS available in the same library section (search under DMS), if you run into trouble. I made a button (two actually) for DirOpus to do the work. Good luck! Tell me how you like the game when you get it going. 🙂 Asha Another Day Another Million Colors
