#Image FX save problems

I'm having a problem with Image FX 1.52. Whenever I save or transfer a file
to GIF, PCX, or 256 color ILBM, all I get is a black image. I'm trying to
transfer pictures to be used as WB Backdrops. If I load the saved images back
into Image FX, they still look black. (And for resource note: I had
transferred a picture to GIF, converted it to a Mac file on my Emplant, and had
a friend load it up in Photoshop on his Mac and he said it was black.) What's
causing my files to turn jet black?

Can you specify all of the steps you go through in creating your files that
turn out to be black? Also, is this the version of ImageFX that can on the
CU Amiga magazine?

Step 1: create an image in Lightwave/Toaster, or download a picture in
JPEG, GIF, or ILBM that is not 800×600.
Step 2: Load files into TV Paint, resize, and save as 800×600 ILBM.
If GIF: load into IFX, convert to ILBM, load into TV Paint.
Step 3: Load resized files into IFX as ILBM's, render as Picasso 800×600
in 256 colors, save out as GIF, JPEG, PCX, or ILBM.
Step 4: Load into WB Pattern, Multiview, or back into IFX and get nothing
but black.
Step 5: Cry and whine. 🙂

Your problem lies in rendering to the Picasso 800×600 display. This takes the
image out of the Amiga's memory and puts it on the display card were it cannot
be saved from. Use the FOREIGN render module instead and all will be fine.

Thank you, I'll give it a shot. BTW, while I'm saving up for the 2.1
version, I've been trying to find out if there is a way you can animate the
effects such as lightning, wave, ripple, etc. effects. Is there a function
that allows this to happen easily to a number of frames?
Eventually what I would like to do is import video frames from the Toaster
Flyer into Image FX, add effects that would animate themselves over a series of
frames, and output them back to the Flyer. Is this possible, and if so is it
easily accomplished?

ImageFX 2.1's AutoFX batch processor can animate many effects over a series
of frames. Whether it animates them the way you want is another question.
There is no substitute for learning a little ARexx as it's hard to make
your work look like you want it without a little ARexx. <grin>
