#second chassis?

Next silly question…
We've got a Breadboard Distribution amp/line delay for our Video Toaster, but
we've discovered that we can't use it unless we put our two TBC boards in a
second chassis… all three boards won't fit in the Amiga, and the Breadboard
has to be in the case… I think it has to be near either the motherboard or
the Toaster board. At any rate… where can I find a second chassis to put the
TBC's in?

Get an old MS-DOS xt or at or something cheap. 50.00 or so and put the TBC's
in there. You just need to power them up.

Wow, that's a terrific idea! It sounded strange to me at first, but apparently
you're right… all the communication with the software is through the serial
port anyway, and the video is carried by standard video cables. I talked to
the church administrator (I work for a church) and it turns out he had some old
stripped PCs in a closet. I grabbed a PC but I haven't had the time to plug up
the TBCs and see if they'll work for me. The PC has nothing in it but power
supply and motherboard… no disk drives even. I'm probably going to have to
cut a speaker wire to keep it from beeping every thirty seconds. :->

It may even be a good idea to move TBC's or other boards like Black Burst
Generator that don't require anything other than power out of the Amiga TO a
Spare PC chassis. If there's no need for the extra demand on the power supply
and additional heat buildup…why have it in there? Just make sure you've got
adequate surge protection on the PC.

Hi Jim,
I actually did get my hands on a spare PC… no drives or anything, just
motherboard and power supply I think… and I'm going to drop the TBC boards in
there as soon as I get a chance. The only worry I have about it (except the
off-chance that it won't work) is that there might be some electrical problem
in the PC that nobody knows about… it's a secondhand computer. It powered up
OK without the TBC boards in it. It's a terrific idea to use a PC for the
second chassis… I had no idea all they were getting from the computer was
power! <G>
Hmm… I wonder if this will help reduce the frequency of crashes? I don't
crash that often, but every once in a while I do have trouble. Hmm.
