Anybody know if the JAZ drive is out yet? Any idea where to grip one?

Sorry Bob I cannot answer you, but I'll use this thread to find out if anyones
has got some ZIP drives on the shelf, ready to ship. It's been B.O. for soooo
long I can't even remember how many birthdays I've had since <bg>.

I saw a few on shelves in electronics stores which mostly push stereos and
TV's. Nobody Beats the Wiz here on the east coast has them in a couple of
stores. If you've got a retailer like this nearby you might get lucky. Just
an idea.

I heard from a friend that a catalog mail order house quoted him end of
October.

A catalog vendor i spoke with two days ago said JAZ ships in Dec and they have
started a waiting list for the first shipment.

Depending on how you want to use the JAZ drive you might want to look into
Pinnacle Mirco's new APEX 4.2gb optical drive. The drive sells for about $1600
and the carts run around $200.

All of these new storage solutions can give one fits trying to figure out the
right one for a given environment. A drive that is portable, low-cost, fast,
re-writeable and high capacity will do the trick for me. Unfortunately, there
are too many technologies to chose from. I'd like to get a solution that is
popular enough to offer a chance of widespread compatibility with service
bureaus and other consultants.

Bob, I'd recommend the Iomega Zip and Jaz drives then. I have seen them
around alot (well, zip drives) and expect them both to be as common as syquest
drives are on the Mac.
I have a Zip drive, and love it. I'm also considering a Jaz. Either that, or
adding the $600 to get a 4GB over a 2GB – not sure yet.)
I'd go for it.

Well, that's why I started this thread. I wanted to find out if the JAZ is
shipping yet. Shouldn't be long now from what I've read here. I've test
driven the ZIP drive and it does everything it says it will. Its small,
portable, easy to setup, pretty quick but doesn't store enough bytes for me. (I
have a 200mb Syquest which gets me in and out of service bureaus). Some mail
order places are taking orders but I have not heard of a single JAZ drive
shipping yet. Do you know of a bonafide source?

I saw it in some mail order catalog.. not sure if it's shipping though. I
believe the company was mentioned earlier (forget the name- PC Warehouse?)

Sorry I wasn't more specific Bob,
While talking to Iomega last week, I was informed that PC Connections was
taking orders by phone. I haven't called them to verify this.
