Mike You may not have noticed one of my messages a week or two ago, but it said that 3 different DPS offices have tested the IBM Ultrastar 4.51 Gig drive part # 94G3196 and found it to be unsuitable for use with the PVR at 5 Meg/sec or higher. Apparently, IBM rates this drive as having a sustained transfer rate of between 5.5 & 7.4 Meg/sec from the center of the drive to its outside edges. DPS says it does not meet that in their tests & it is not on their approved drive list. If you find out whether there is a problem with the Matrox Millennium card working with the PVR under Windows NT, please let me know what it is & the solution if any. Yesterday, Dave White from Matrox claimed he had heard nothing about a problem between these cards & I still haven't received an answer back from DPS Kentucky. Doug, Apparently some of the A/V rated drives have an occasional "spike" in their performance during sustained play, or over particular areas of the drive. This unevenness, even though probably still useful for other AV applications, seem to make them unsuited for PVR use. It is even possible that the performance characteristics are somewhat operating system dependent, and since the PVR formats its own drive… Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

<<A/V PVR drive spikes>> Is the 4.3 GB Micropolis one of these? The drive is sitting at my feet and the Perception/TBC is due on Monday….

John, No fear, the Micropolis 3243AV is one of the 5 recommended drives for the Perception. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Doug… Dontcha' find it amazin that DPS and Matrox are both Canadian companies involved in high-end PC graphics and that they don't have more dialogue? My builder questioned me about which rev of the IBM drive was tested as possibly there's some newer drives that have changed. I couldn't answer that since DPS told me that the UltraSTAR didn't meet their requirements. \\\. ========================= >-==<MIKE(>=– >-==*- /
