#Gamma settings for PAR
5 messages in this thread
To All,
I'm trying to set the gamma correction values in 3D Studio for the PAR.
I've read the books, I've set the gamma for my computer moniter. When trying
trying to set the gamma for the "frame buffer" the dialog box is visible on the
computer display. How do I set it on the NTSC moniter if I can't see it.
Thanks,
Scott

The gamma setting which you want to mess around with is for file output gamma
when calibrating output to the PAR. The framebuffer gamma will have no effect
at all unless you have one installed in addition to your PAR board. For my PAR
output I have been using an output gamma setting of 1.4 with good results.

Robert,
Thanks for the reply. Now that you got me looking in the right
direction, I should be able to adjust it properly.
Thank you,

Theres a file in the library (Gamma.zip?) that is a 50% grey on one side and a
grey made of tiny black and white dots on the other. If my understanding of
gamma corection is correct only the grey is changed by the gamma setting not
the black and white dots. Therefore if one outputs the file from the PAR to
video after applying a variety of gamma settings to it in 3ds and views it on a
video monitor ( not the computer monitor) the variation that shows the two
sides as the same grey should be the one with the correct gamma setting.

Edward,
That's what I need, I'll look for the file and give it a try.
Thank you,
