Using the DPS PAR with Animator Studio (without resorting to TGA sequence):
From the DOS PAR.EXE: create a project on
the PAR drive if none exist (click on the ".." button to
see the project buttons). Toggle the PAR/TGA to PAR.
In Windows:
Be sure the PAR MCI/Codec software is installed (available from
DPS's BBS (416) 754-8368, file PARW123.EXE, or www.dps-inc.com (?)).
Use the DPS Codec Configure program; turn off Quick Render, and
set the PAR workfile in your project directory.
If you already have a PAR .ANI to edit with Animator:
use the PAR-2-AVI program to create the .AVI file which points
to the .ANI file on the PAR drive (the .AVI file is NOT on the PAR drive:
QueryFile…).
The .AVI file is just a stub: a video stream in an .AVI file which uses the
DPS codec just points to the data on the PAR drive. Other streams added later
to
the .AVI file (like audio, selection, and mask streams) WILL be saved in
the .AVI file on your DOS hard drive.
When you open the new .AVI file created by PAR-2-AVI in Animator, Animator
converts the video to Autodesk-RLE compression, stored in a temp file (in
c:\tmp
or wherever your DOS environment variable points to).
When saving, Animator's default is Autodesk-RLE. If you want the video to go
to the PAR (as an .ANI, which the .AVI will then point to), set the Compression
Options to the DPS Codec (you can setup the codec .ANI output file here as well
as
from the DPS Codec Configure program).
If you just want to convert an .AVI to .ANI, you can avoid Animator's
unnecessary
Conversion-for-Editing process by using SoundLab. Again, save to an .AVI with
the compression set to DPS Codec, with the codec pointing to your destination
.ANI
on the PAR drive.
