#Max, what Else?
18 messages in this thread
Greg,
Thanks for the note. Now for the 64 dollar question…
I hate to ask, but I just gotta…well, let me ask it this way…
Are there going to be any algorithms that will keep me from running MAX on a
DEC Alpha? I have found some great deals on Alpha motherboards, duals, quads,
and even an 8-plex.
Once its demo'd on a quad 300Mhz Alpha its gonna dominate. I know the official
line is Intel only but… I feel the need for speed, especially since I render
and rotoscope about 10000 frames a week and I won't even talk about World
Builder render times…
I though the development team might rethink the Intel thing and hedge its bets
what with the P6's Orion SMP chip set having a few bugs.
Thanks,
Mark

yeah, and I asked you for details via e-mail. What happened?
Dummy here, is still trying to get a price list together…
Beat me about the head and shoulders soundly. I'll get you one by early next
week.
Mark
Mark, hope you had fun at the show…
Put me on that e-mail list too, pls.

Steve,
Sorry I havn't sent you any material (you know what I mean). I've been awful
busy shooting and producing videos lately. I'll send some stuff to you whan I
get a chance this week. Also, got a proposal to do a major project for a video
and a CD-ROM for a kiosk. Can you assist? This will be a six month project
probably.
Mark
Mark,

ah, righto! Take that <oof> … and this <pow>

redemption awaits you <g>.

Autodesk has stated only that MAX will run under Intel chips, but if it's just
a matter of compiling again, I can't imagine that they wouldn't have MAX run on
an Alpha (or two!)

Can't you make those guys do it? Lets see some arm twisting.

Autodesk and the Yost Group have always been very good at providing what users
want. If they hear enough people wanting an Alpha version of MAX, they will
probably release one.
So let's hear it, how many people would purchase an Alpha copy of MAX?

I WOULD! INMEDIATLY!
Oh, sorry … 🙂

I already have Clients that have Purchased DEC Machines that are upgradable to
the ALPHA Chipset. I can make an Educated Guess based upon our current Client
Base and would have to say I _suspect_ at least 84 of them would _imeadiatly_
jump to the ALPHA Version. The rest would have to run Intel versions until
they could afford the Alpha versions.
This is based on one-to-one conversations I've had with each of these
individuals.

Multiple copies for me, thanks.

Lessee, Alpha comes _before_ beta, right? <VBG>

Me, and ten more people that I know.
You have my vote for Alpha MAX

Greg,

I'd take 6 copies probably.
Chalk up an Alpha MAX or two for Choreo Motion sometime next year!

Thanks Greg.
