#Amiga Con Man BEWARE!!
17 messages in this thread
Please beware of a scam artist who took me for several hundred dollars
in a deal to purchase an Amiga 4000 from a CServe classified ad. He
is David Chase along with Betty Yoder of Orville, Ohio membership #
74452,674.
P.S. If anyone else has had a problem with this scam, please let me
know. Thanks
Have you reported them to CIS? If not, do so immediately and follow up
with your local state district attorney's fraud office.
Since you have access via the CIS network locally (provided you're not
using the 800# and live in the Aleutian Islands or something) you can
be covered under your local state laws for fraud.
PMFJI – If you sent them money you should know where they live. Maybe
a local member can dig up some info.
That S**ks!!! Have you called Compuserve management about it? They may
not be able to do anything for you but then again maybe they can.
I don't remember if it was you that posted it, Gary, but on the
internet, there is a guy that got burned from the same people via
delphi, and evidently he has found several others that have had the
same problem with people of similar names in the same city. It is on
the comp.sys.amiga.marketplace newsgroup. He is trying to file legal
action so you may want to contact him.
Brian, I am very interested in contacting the others who got burned. I
know how to post to internet to a particular person, but how do I get
into the newsgroup?>
Gary you can do it here on Compuserve now according to the new
Compuserve magazine. Try GO USENET, I've never used it so I don't
know how you access individual newsgroups
PMJI There is a very easy, intuitive menu system to select specific
newsgroups to which to subscribe. I was able to set up 10 or so Amiga
newsgroups (from about 20 possible ones) within 5-10 minutes. The
system is a lot better than some other text-based Internet access
systems I have seen – and worse than others – but definitely very
usable.
Thanx for the info on the Usenet newsgroup setup here on CI$

Gary,
I live only 15 miles from Orrville, OH. You want I should pay them a visit,
eh? I could take Bluto with me.
Goin' AP

Mark, You say that in jest perhaps, but I'll keep it in mind. Evidently, they
have ripped off several people in the past week.
If I were to corner him and say that a friend was going to come by and
pick up the computer, would you be willing to go by there?
PMFJI
Who is ripping off amiga users??
Jim
>Who is ripping off amiga users?<
The scam artists are David (akaDevin) Chase and finance/wife Betty
Yoder of Orville, Ohio.

What are they trying to sell and how?
There was a CIS classified for Amiga 1200s and 4000s. They also
scammed at least several people on Delphi.
Sure I'd pick it up. Orrville is not much out of my way. I hate to
say it but it seems unlikely that they would agree to such a thing.
It IS a rotten thing to rip someone off through the mail. Kinda
cowardly.
