thanks for the info. wouldn't you know it wont be available until i upgrade to

and MAX.(gobs of memory,gobs of bucks)!
Yep, brother, I feel the same way. I already bought NT. Beside the extra ram
and processing power people are concerning, most people didn't realize that Max
will also need a large monitor. I think I need a 21". I loaded up the sample
1024 x 768 Max files to my 17", after staring at the screen for 10 minutes, I
got dizzy. I'm afraid without a 21", there is no way I can work with Max for
hours and hours.

What dot pitch is your 17" monitor? At home mine is a .26mm and is crisp at
1024 x 768. At .28mm I could understand dissatisfaction.

My monitor is really good. And it performs .26 mm up to 1028 by 1024. But the
things is, Max got some may ICONs, and some may feature, it's not that my
monitor is not clear. It's crisp and sharp, it's just 1024 x 768 with Max,
everything seems so small. My eyes got really tired staring at small buttons
and stuff. If I want to use Max, chances are, I'll be staring at it for hours
and hours, it's just important for me to get an large, comfortable display.
Most of people agree with me. Of course, there are also a few people who are
used to staring at very small icons at highres.

Monitor choice is very personal, I wouldn't skimp in any way on this part of
one's system. At home I have a 17" and at work a 21". Small icons don't
bother me, small wallet contents do. <G>

A nice big monitor will be one of the best investments you can make. I love
mine. Once you've used a 21" monitor you'll be hooked. Your eyes will thank you
for it. Besides, it will outlast the rest of your system as far as technology
goes.

I'll be getting a 21" by January. I'm thinking about the NEC XE21, or XP. Any
suggestions?

Hmmm… a very subjective topic.
I'm using a 21" Mitsubishi that came with my Dell system. I works OK though
the color is a little uneven. Wouldn't recommend it. The NEC's are great
though.
Bottom line. If your going to video tape, test render through a composite
monitor.
Things change at the video end. Especially with color saturation.

Yeah John, you could strap two 15"s to your face for a stereo-scopic
effect…Cool!!

Ouch! but then you can't upgrade to the 96" monitors coming out later on!
Velcro makes it zip-n-play. 🙂

I don't have a crystal ball but I think the Lightscape stand-alone package for
NT should ship before the new year. At least the people I talked to were
optimistic and the demo version being exhibited at SIGGRAPH was mostly
functional. Lightscape has been available for SGI for a couple of years so
they aren't starting from scratch with this product. Although they are adding
some features this is more of a port to NT than anything else.
