To anybody, I need some desperate help on Lenzfx. Being quite happy with results I have on static images, as soon as I try some relatively simple animation effects, I get some very unsatisfactory things. I am being asked to do a simple commercial for french television. Nothing really painful, just a camera move in space following a logo arriving near our planet earth, with the sun appearing behind it. I was intending of using Lenzfx to do it, but I am running into a problem: I have placed a light behind the planet (my flare reference) which gradually appears and which isn't in camera at the beginning of the shot. The problem is that the flare doesn't appear gradually in camera (but doesit does so behind the planet), which means that from one frame to the other the glow of my flare just pops up. It doesn't look good at all. Lenzfx doesn't seem to calculate the flare when the reference light is out camera. So what's the answer to that problem? If anybody has any ideas I'd be really greatful… Pierre Coffin.

Pierre, >>…the glow of my flare just pops up.<< Well, that's not good news. I am planning something like that for my demo reel. I have had LenZFX2 for just a few days so haven't had much of a chance to try it out. I am getting everything right with Key Factory before I put the flourish on it. A few things come to mind though, and this is what *I* am planning to do. Could you render the scene two seperate times with the same camera movement. Once with the flare hidden, planet visible, then again with the planet hidden, flare showing. Then composite them in Animator Studio or Video Post to get the same effect? Let me know what you think about this as all this is new to me and I don't want to paint myself into a corner (AGAIN!) if this will not work for some reason. Hoping this helps you AND me, Terry

>>the glow of my flare just pops up. It doesn't look good at all.<< You can fade-in the flare with the envelope feature in Lenzfx, so it appears gradually. I used it precisely for a sun raising behind the earth. It was very convincing. Francisco.

There may be a better answer to your question, but here's my first thought: Render the border pixels like this: 1) Measure the distance between you're camera and it's target. 2) Now dolly the camera back say 10% of that distance to obtain a 10% border pixel boundry. 3) Calculate the new resolution by X = X * 1.10 and Y = Y * 1.10. 4) Render the scene to the new resolution using the NULL device. — breath — 5) The idea here is kind of like matting a picture using Video Post. The idea is to place the larger rez rendering behind a "hole" that's cut to exactly the normal resolution you need. Do this by using VP to offset the larger images so that their center falls in the center of the normal rendering area. Or -0.5 * (X2 – X1). VIOLA! Example using PAR resolution. 1) Distance from camera to target is 100 units. 2) Dolly the camera back 10 units. 3) New resolution is 752 * 1.10 = 827 and 480 x 1.10 = 528. 4) Render using Null device to disk files at 827×528. (aspect stays the same) — breath — 5) Put the renderer resolution back to 752 x 480. Create an IFL of the larger files you rendered in step 4. Enter VP and create exactly 1 entry for IFL. Edit the entry and use the OFFSET button at -.5 * (827 – 752) = – 38 for X offset. Use the same formula to get -24 Y offset. Render again. Be sure all color correcting is OFF including GAMMA correction. Cheers. — James — Choreo Motion —

Hi Pierre, Make sure that your camera and/or your flare reference light are not linked. In other words you camera (or target) should not be linked to a dummy object, etc. Linking causes invalid X,Y,Z values to be passed to LenZFX. If this doesn't help, make sure you have the OCCLUDE button set to ON. Turn all three EFFECT FADE sliders to 100 and set the RADIUS slider to about 35. If that doesn't do it, ZIP up your file and send it to me via private EMAIL and I'll be happy to take a look. The bottom line is LenZFX 1 or 2 will definately do the effect your looking for. Hello David, I've already tried what you wrote me, to no avail… I went around the problem by animating the enveloppe, while the object appears in-camera. Not quite what I wanted, but then I was quite short on time. I'll be sending you my project as soon as all this is over (In a week or so), just as to know what the problem is (for futur works). Thanks very much for your concern, I am glad to know you're out there, Sincerely, Pierre Coffin
