#NT to DOS client?

Hello,
Looking for information/war stories on NT to Dos client software….
for net-rendering over an NT-server network. (yea right!)
I was told some people have had success, while it has not worked for others.
Information, stories, tips appreciatied.

I just finished setting up a smalll farm using NT with dos clients…well
actually with a bunch of different clients….Dos 6.22, Dos 7 (win95) and a
dual boot DOS/NT workstation client.. So far tests seems to go
smoothly….although I hate the fact that one machine must stay in NT to act as
server….I wish I could use it to render. I'll let you know what problems
crop up during the next week.

Do you know if your dos clients can render to a PVR on the NT server?
I render 15 minutes+ per week and I tire of copying all the frames to the PVR
manually. Plus it ties up several 9 gigers. Plus at 2 gig per dos partition I
render som to d,e,f,g,h,i,j,…etc…
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's a good question….As I said I just finished setting up the network and
I still have a couple little idiosyncracies to work out….so I haven't
actually put a PVR in yet…in fact we're still waiting to get ours. My only
personal experience is with the PAR and I knwo you needed PAROUT from Greg
Pyros to net render to that….so I don't know yet about the situation with the
PVR…I'm sure someone here must know. Sorry I can't be of more help.
What software package are you using for the dos-client side of things?
Is there something that comes with the NT server?

I'm using the Network Client for MS Dos that comes with NT Server. When you
install NT Server it installs a program which allows you to create either a set
of install disks for your client machines or a startup disk that lets you
install over the network from the CD on your server…It's actually not
bad…you have choices for about 4-6 different setups ….WFW3.11, DOS, etc..it
also has Lan Manager for DOS and a few other things.
You mean straight MS-DOS? You can use the LAN Manager for DOS software that
comes with Windows for Workgroups 3.11… it'll talk to WinNT servers.

I found a solution to my DOS client / page fault woes… It turns out that all
of the machines that were crashing were using the Windows for Workgroups DOS
client – files dated from 1993 – when I used the DOS client that came with NT
3.51 — dated 1994 or 1995 ? — everything works swell — no more page faults!
