Is there a problem using laplink software and the 3ds4 hardware lock? I transfer files from the desktop pc to the laptop through the same parallel port where the hardware lock is installed. However, with the lock in place no connection between the 2 computers is made. When I remove the lock the connection flows without problem through the parallel port. I run on Warp and have tried both the IBM Linkrite software and the Dos platform Laplink III software. Both seem to have the same problem with the lock. Any remedy for this problem? Anybody else experience the same? -Peter Landeck

Yes — you cannot use any file transfer software (like LapLink) through the parallel port that your dongle is connected to. You'll either have to use the LapLink serial cable, add a second parallel port or remove the dongle. Dave

Mr. Rhoten, when exactly does 3ds4 poll the hardware lock beside just after initialization? Can I remove the lock duing a rendering without causing a shut down? during a flic rendering? during a single frame render? Thanks, Peter Landeck

My understanding is that the dongle is polled at startup, and at various times otherwise. It is not polled during the rendering process. LAM

thank you for the reply Larry. How about during rendering of a FLC? I seem to remember the flic rendering crash without it. Peter Landeck
