Does anyone know about the IK comming with version 4? Will it only be applied
through parent/child object hierarchies, or will it also work with bones?

Bruce: FWIW, all I've heard is "basic inverse kinematics are supported in
LW 4.0".

Thanks anyway. I think Lightwave needs a few more tools as far as character
animation goes. I wish they had a motion graph editor, so that you could
insert motion into an existing graph between specified frame points. I would
also like to be able to break the motion graph spline at a certain point and
continue from the same point with a second spline. Work on the second spline
wouldn't affect the previous spline. The only way to do this now is to break
up a scene into multiple scene files.

Re, the spline thing – have you tried using the "Linear" option at the point
you want the second spline motion to start? Does that not do it for you?

4.0 IK will work with bones and/or parent/child relationships. And
yes, it is "basic" IK.
Thanks for both answers. Were you and Grant scarce because you were
finishing up Voyager work? After the Voyager season starts will you
be able to talk about how the miniture and CGI work is merged?
In working on a character animation, I'm learning how tough it is
to light an interior set for a dolly shot that involves an aprox. 180
deg pan. I think I will try to avoid doing anything like this for
the rest of the animation.
I have not seen it in opperation yet, but Allen discribed it back in
October at the VTU Hawiian Classes. He discribed it as VERY Basic.
You create a null object as a Target and tell your selected object
object to find it. I cant imagine that it wouldn't work with bones,
but I do hope for so much. He also said that at this point if you
creat a knee joint you have a 50/50 shot at the knee bending like a
human or backwards like an animal.
This was a few months ago so please take this as pure rumor. Every thing may
have changed by now…
