#Sound in Sync

Dave, As always, thanks for the response, but this time you lost me on a couple of things. 1) How do you edit the animation and sound separately, and after editing, recombine them into a "playback edition"? I am already using Studio for animation (of course) and Soundlab for audio. What is "separately" and then how do I "Recombine"? 2) I'm not setting any codecs right now.(in studio the compression setting is set to " No Recompression") However, when I open the file in Soundlab and check the compression options under the file pull down, it says my file is a Autodesk RLE compression format. Is this a default? and if so is it helping to cause the sync problem as you said? I'm willing to forgo compression for quality sake if necessary. How do I do this? 3) As far as the Autowave Error msg when closing Soundlab, I'm using the R1.1 which I received last week. (It's a real improvement but it does seem to have a few new wrinkles). What is "separately" and then how do I "Recombine"? << it is possible to save only the video or audio portion of a movie. when working in video… always use 24-bit lossless codec. when working in sound, maintain sound info as a wav file. the playback edition is simply the codec video used for sound synchronizing. put another way… the 24-bit lossless version is not a play-version.. too choppy. use a lossy version to do your sound synchs with. make sense? if you use the same lossy codec for sound synch (even though you continue to use a 24-bit codec for editing), you will consistently keep sound and video tied together for the joint lossy playback AVI. <now i've probably really confused you> <gg> >> 2) I'm not setting any codecs right now.(in studio the compression setting is set to " No Recompression") However, when I open the file in Soundlab and check the compression options under the file pull down, it says my file is a Autodesk RLE compression format. How do I do this? << no recompression is the default. this is lossless (24-bit). before you go into soundlab to do work… save the movie as a 24-bit lossless and as a lossy (like cinepak or indeo)… once saved… use the lossy for sound synching. take note… be SURE to save and close down any animations in animator module before working in Soundlab. otherwise, when you try to save a new AVI with sound in Soundlab, you'll get s share violation error since the file is still open over in Animator module. >> 3) As far as the Autowave Error msg when closing Soundlab, I'm using the R1.1 which I received last week. Dave, Thanks for trying, but… Are you saying that the only way to consistently keep sound and video tied together is to use a joint lossy playback AVI. If so, I think that we are in trouble because the quality of the lossy codecs is not useable for my needs. What uses is the souldlab modulde designed for? Barry

If so, I think that we are in trouble because the quality of the lossy codecs is not useable for my needs. << nope. what i'm saying is that if you don't want slippage… you need to be consistent with the video and audio data when they are mixed. successive saves using lossy codecs will throw the two layers of data out of sync. -dave
