#Still No Internet
7 messages in this thread
I am sick of it!!!
For the last three days and most of the nights I am trying to get into the
Internet via Compuserve.
During most of that time I had two editor-windows, one shell, and at least one
multiview window on my screen. I have beent reading and typing cryptic commands
for hours. I feel like owning an old MSDOS XT from 1980.
I am not a programmer, but I am not stupid. Usually I am able to figure things
out.
I have downloaded evrything that was recommended to me. I have run the
interinstall v1.51 script. I read the text files supposed to help those who
dont succeed.
It does not work. PPP dials and gets connected, but AMI/TCP somehow doesnt hack
it.
I have several CDROMS from several Computer Magazines for Windows and MACs
saying "Internet with one mouseclick" (although I havent tried that).
Why is this not possible on the AMIGA, t h e graphics computer!?
If I cannot get it running soon I will trash my AMIGA… if there werent
PageStream3!

Micheal,

Might I ask, do you get a "complete" window in the corner of the screen?
Also, did you click on the OK when it unghosts at the AmiTCP/IP guilt Screen?
We'll look at the obvious before we look at reinventing the wheel. I bet you
are closer than you know :-).
Don't give up yet. Your surrounded by help.
Jim
Thank you, Jim, you sound reassuring.
>Might I ask, do you get a "complete" window in the corner of the screen?
No, I dont. I get a small "Dialling…" window where I can watch the progress
of the connection. After getting connected, I can see CIS asking for my
password, which is being entered (invisible), then I see the letters "PPP"
appearing (as long as I have "wait PPP" in my dial script) then the "Dialling"
window closes, then after 10 secs or so my modem hangs up (I can hear it) and I
get the PPP faile message in another small window.
>Also, did you click on the OK when it unghosts at the AmiTCP/IP guilt Screen?
No, I never get to see that screen. I see it when I doubleclick on AMI/TCP
though so I know AMI/TCP is there…
Thank you again!

Michael,
We've all had things that were as frustrating as this – usually just before we
accidentally did the very thing that makes them work. I hope things have gone
better today!

Unfortunately not yet… didnt have the time to try. Looking through all the
answers I got.. Thanks alot to everybody.
I dont want to sound stupid and I know that many of these matters have been
discussed in this forum before. I have to be offline and away from home in my
job lots of times and dont have the time to keep up with my history all the
time.

I only wish I knew the answer and could help out.
Understand about being away. Sometimes you just can't help it.
