HI
I've got AmiTCPver2.2 on my amiga windowa NT on my PC I seem to have trouble
getting them connected I think it's my set up of AmiTCP both machines seem to
have FTP running and I specifed my destination address in the amitcp setup but
I think my hosts file is not correct
If anyone can post me their config files I would apprieciate it or any
suggestions in general

I've got AmiTCP4 on two amigas linked to two PCs (one WinNT, the other
Win3.11). I just use the TCP/IP and FTP client/server that's part of WinNT, and
the free Microsoft TCP/IP and FTP client add-on for Win3.11.
If you can't get it working, then the Hosts file is not the place to start. You
can FTP without a hosts file at all if you just use the IP address. The place
to start is with Ping. If you can't ping with just an IP address, then your
network cards or protocol settings aren't right. I had a problem during my
setup where I could ping inh one direction but not the other, and thanks to
some valuable advice from Dale Larson spotted the problem in the Interfaces
file.
The first important settings are the IP addresses of all the machines. What
have you used? You don't need to worry about subnet mask (just accept the
default), nor a gateway/destination (only used if your local network is linked
to a bigger network). Just concentrate on the IP addresses and the Interfaces
file. It is this latter file that configures your network card, and (all
importantly) can provide a link between the hardware address on the card and
the software IP address that you give it. This is where I had a problem in not
having edited the file to setup my eb920 ethernet card.
If Ping works OK, then it is time to edit the Hosts file so that you can use
machine names as well (or instead of) IP addresses. Get back to me if you need
any more help with this.
