#Term D-Load speeds

When I access CIS with Term 4.4 I get terrible transfer rates with the X-modem
protocol. The problem is no other protocol seems to work. I have the libs
archive for Term so I'm at a loss as to what else to try. Is there any way I
can get good transfer rates without switching to Autopilot?

Don't know why you don't want to switch to AutoPilot, I did (from Terminus)
and haven't regretted it for a moment… That aside, if you can find a terminal
program that supports CISB (or beter B+) that would help, if not try Ymodem
(not the 1K or the g, or the batch, just plain Ymodem). You still won't get
the BEST transfer rates, but it'll be better than Xmodem. Betty has suggested
Kermit from time to time, but I've never personally tried that one. Good luck!

Term supports B protocol via the XPR libraries … set it up.

I have tried both Term 4.4 & 4.5 and cannot get either to use the Compuserve B
protocol. How exactly do I set it up? I can get Term to work with all other
online services without any trouble. I have selected the protocol and there
appears to be no problems with the configuration of it.
Chris
Since I don't know what specifically what you are doing I don't know why you
can't get it to work. Suffice it to say, tho, that if you have the XPR B+ or
QB library, and you've selected one of those libraries for use with Term, it
works fine.
I'll try and be a bit more specific. I have selected xprquickb in the default
protocol and receive protocol in the Transfer Protocol area of the phonebook
entry I have for Compuserve. After I have logged in and gone to, for example,
this forum, I then select a file for download. Next when prompted for the
protocol, quickb is selected. I'm then prompted for the filename, then the
prompt tells me to start a transfer. I then choose download binary files from
the menu and am greeted with the following message "Startup Line", there is a
prompt underneath this with "dow/proto:qb" in it, so I press enter and
eventually get a timeout message from the protocol.
If there are any specific details you need that I have not given please tell
me. Why does CIS not support Zmodem?
Chris
You'd been more specific 🙂 . But then, a pretty common problem is that you
should set your serial prefs in Term to 8-N-1 even if you heard that CIS uses
7-E-1. To prevent garbage from CIS set "Strip high bit" as well.

Chris..
You could always try getting XPRQUICKB.LIBRARY or XPRBPLUS.LIBRARY, which
works fine with Terminus, but i've never used TERM so i don't know if you can
use external protocols..
You'll have to read the term doc's on how to set them up for use etc etc.
