I've been reading about the Workbench 3.1 Operating system. I have 3.0 on my
1200. Should I upgrade?

Absolutely. I'm not sure what the status is on the (new?) 3.1 being shipped
with the new 1200's–but at one time upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 on a 1200
basically rendered the PCMCIA useless. This was because C= had not developed a
version specific to the 1200…

I don't need my PCMCIA slot anyway because I already have 4MB installed. Is it
worth waiting for the next upgrade since a lot of changes are being made now
with the Amiga computers?
I also want to add to my hard drive memory. I have 80MB. But now it is 52%
filled. What do you know about the zip drive and should I consider that instead
of getting a bigger hard drive?

I would say go ahead with the upgrade now; the benefits are worth having if you
enjoy the OS.

Excellent value for the money. It does require a SCSI connection though, so
you'd need a SCSI controller of some sort (lots of options here for the 1200).
It would solve your storage needs, certainly. A bigger hard drive is also
relatively cheap– you can get _far_ more Hard Drive space now than ever. A 1.2
GB hard drive is very inexpensive.

They have now. There's an A1200-version available with the PCMCIA-thing fixed.

Agreed, real VM would be nice, though my personal prefereces are for having
lots and lots of REAL memory so I don't need VM…:)
Basically, it's really time for an OS upgrade!

Not to mention RTG! That would be very important for all us ECS Amiga users
with graphics cards.

Good question! I've heard that there are PCMCIA problems (or were, not sure
about the tense of that) because there wasn't an A1200 specific version put out
before C='s demise. I don't know if this has been addressed.
Several people I read online have upgraded. Some think it's worth it,
others don't. I really don't know what the differences are between 3.0 and
3.1, but maybe someone else here does and will tell you.
I know it was really worth it for me to upgrade from 2.1 to 3.1 on my
A2000/040 though…:)
