Its a different release of the Denise/Daphne chip which allows the 64 colour
mode (known as 'EXTRA HALFBRITE') Apparently only a FEW Amiga's currently
have this chip, but all NEW Amiga's will have it as standard (as of Now!) –

I don't see any reason why they SHOULD update chips. Its an undocumented EXTA
feature that they decided to add at the last minute. Since its neither
supported nor documented, I don't think they are even morally obligated to
update any machines. I agree, it would be NICE if they did… but then, they'd
have to Support and upgrade Everyone's machines… which means a Recall, since
dull-users should never be allowed to upgrade machines themselves, cos all
sorts of hassles are created! No; its a case of, Whatever is Standard on ALL
machines, gets supported. Any new features they add during manufacture can't
be relied upon when designing software for the machine. – Jez.

How about the programs that use the GTIA in the old Ataris? There are a few of
them, but not all Ataris have that chip.

Kind of like old Atari's CTIA/GTIA. Of course it took a LOT longer for Atari to
go to the GTIA!
