#DE-ARC PROGRAM(S)
8 messages in this thread
Where in the DATA LIBRARY can be found the one ALL-PURPOSE de-ARC
program?…Many files have the .ARC designation, but there must be one or more
in the library that can de-ARC any file…I would like one that that gives
instructions on how to de-ARC…I don't understand this ARC stuff./ex
Charles, ARC.EXE is in DL4 and the help/doc file is ARC.HLP in DL1.
Rename ARC.EXE to ARC and put it in your c directory on Workbench. To deARC a
file CD to the disk and/or directory where the downloaded file is (make sure it
has a .ARC extender) and type ARC X filename .
If you need additional help, let me know. Marlene
Marlene Aenker/Charles Cleveland: I too have had problems in trying to get a
de-arc'ing file. I have store all the instructions in the buffer and printed
them out on my printer. I have downloaded what I thought was a de-arc'ing
program. Marlene, you don't specifiy that the program is to be loaded into the
"Workbench" on the 'Workbench' disk, or the 'Workbench' on the AmigaTerm disk
(if it matters). In either case, if I use the instructions as stated, the CLI
just doesn't seem to recognize the ARC X (or E) TEST (or whatever) command. It
is probably due to my lack of knowledge about the CLI. I have given up in the
mean time and keep reading similar messages from other neophytes to see if they
can have their problems solved. Could it be that the instructions (help) need
a review to see if their plain enough? Thanks. Jim
Jim,
Did you rename ARC.EXE to ARC, did you put ARC in your C directory of
your workbench disk? If so, what you typed should have worked (presuming you
were also in the current directory where TEST.ARC was).

Charles –
I know everyone else is trying to be helpful to you, but I think they've
missed the best answer to your question…
There is a smaller and more convenient program for de-ARCing only. It is
called UNARC.EXE and is found in DL4 with keywords MINIARC EXTRACT ONLY. I
have put this in my c: directory because it's only 12K or so, and it is very
easy to use. Of course, it won't build ARC files for uploading – only extract
files after download. All you have to do to de-arc a file called EXAMPLE.ARC
is to type "unarc example", assuming of course that you have the file in your
current directory.
Joel
Thanks,Joel Halbert, for your suggestion to download UNARC.EXE…Thanks also to
Marlene Zenker.
Welcome Charles, let us know if you need additional assistance.
