It's a small world after all. I grew up in Stamford. Went to Rippowam HS on
High Ridge Rd. My parents still live there. (Not at the High School) <g>. My
mother would love it if I came back to Stamford,
I'm in Los Angeles. I work with a small company cutting trailers and TV
primarily for Disney. I just finished work on The Santa Clause. I use a 4000
w/audio upgrades and the advanced JPEG boards. We also just got the newest
release of Marathon, a Doom type videogame for the MAC that's our most
important feature.
I belong to the LA users group and went to the Users Conf. last year but it's
always nice to hear what's going on with everone else. Are you guys going to
on-line or outputting at AVR26? My mac has 28MB RAM and Avid is reccommending
upgrades to at least 36MB. What are you guys using w/5.2 and are you having
problems?
Tell Allison I hope the hot spot isn't still the Rusty Scupper.

We're doing a fair amount of corporate work that finishes on a 1000 at AVR26.
I'm waiting for 27, personally — still too many JPEG artifacts on some
material at 26.

We have two Avids, an 800 and a 1000. The 800 only has 28MB; the 1000 has
44MB, which is what they're shipping now with new systems (ever since 5.2
started shipping). There are little bugs here and there, but mostly the only
frustration is dealing with the way some commands moved around in 5.2 — things
just aren't where you expect them to be sometimes. We'll get used to it just
in time for the next revision. 😉 Plus there are things that need to be made
more robust, like the title tool.

It's still around, but I've always found it priced higher than necessary for
what you get.
