I'm hoping to put this in Off the Cuff because it really is.
Here goes. I have one question and ione question only.
What are the 7 wonders of the world ?????
Nothing to do with computer s or stuff like that. But I'm on the
road and don't have an Encyclopedia. Or a CD-ROM drive ???
The reason I want to know is because I want to make a point
of seeing them all before I DIE !!!
Which is hopefully a long way off, only 25 now.

Umm, well there's a problem, you see. The "Seven Wonders of the World" are also
known as the "Seven _Ancient_ Wonders of the World"… and some of them are
unfortunately so ancient that they no longer exist. The Hanging Gardens of
Babylon and the Colossus of Rhodes are both in that category. Two that you can
still see are the Great Pyramid at Gizeh, and the Sphinx. Is that seven yet?
… oh no, only four. Well, uh… well, I'd tell you the other three but I'm
afraid I have to rush off just now.

Hey thats great Nick, so now I have four, I might not be able
to see them all but I can probably visit the areas of the world
where they exixsted. Oh….and I'm sure you can get the other
3 to me when you come back to the forum eh!! (HeHeHeHe)

The Sphinx was not a wonder of the world. Anyone can make a sphinx,
apparently, but it takes a heap of work to build a pyramid. 🙂
Right. Forgot about Pharos… Phidias' Zeus, temple of Artemis and King
what's-is-name's mausoleum I would never have come up with. If it had been me,
I would have stretched a point, had _8_ wonders of the world, and included the
Sphinx… really, they're by no means as easy to build as you'd think until you
give it a try. I had to throw mine away, couldn't get the face right.

The pyramids. (Still here. Look on a US $1 Bill)
The hanging gardens of Babylon. (Fell down)
The mausoleum of King Masoleus. (Dust)
The temple of Artemis at Ephesis. (Burnt by arsonist Herostratus, who wanted
to be famous for destroying the temple.)
The colossus of Rhodes. (Sleeps with the fishes)
The statue of Zeus by Phidias. (Vandalized)
The lighthouse of Alexandria. (Dark)
Wow !! Thats from memory , pretty good memory , is it solid state.
Your reply now brings my total to eight , the extera one I have is
the Sh Sphynx. Looks like I might have to get to a library
somehow.

Pack your bags! I've got a list of the seven wonders of the Ancient
World, of the Middle Ages, and of the Modern World.
In the Ancient World, they are the Great Pyramid Of Cheops, the Hanging
Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Diana at
Ephesus, the Tomb of King Mausolus at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes,
and the Lighthouse on the Isle of Pharos.
In the Middle Ages, they are the Colosseum of Rome, the Catacombs of
Alexandria, the Great Wall of China, Stonehenge, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the
Porcelain Tower of Nanking, and the Mosque of St. Sophia at Constantinople.
In the Modern Era, they are the Empire State Building, the Jodrell Bank
Telescope, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Panama Canal, Sputnik I, Hoover Dam, and
the Nautilus Submarine.

eWell it looks like I'll just have to pack for the Modern Era
minus the empire state building ( so thats 1 out of 7 only 6 more

If it's any concern, archaeologists have possibly uncovered the Colossus of
Rhodes. I remember reading about it this summer, they found a big piece of
hand on the sea floor someplace. (Probably near Greece, I'd guess.)
I thought the Taj Mahal was one too? Guess I'm wrong. Marlene
