#A2320 Display Enhancer

Do I understand this to say that CBM has a product that does the same as
Microways Flicker Fixer? Does it work the same way ? Does it offer anything
FF does not, and what type of moniter or other requirements are needed?

I have an A2320. It's a pleasure to look at this screen.
What does the A2320 do that FlixerFixer doesn't? It leaves some change in
your wallet (i.e. iless expensive). Other than that, they're nearly the
same functionally. The A2320 has a by-pass switch, but why anyone would
want to by-pass the thing and look at interlace and scanlines is way beyond
me.

David, the A2320 does something very important that the FF doesn't. It
fully supports the new Denise's modes. It won't de-interlace the new
interlaced modes, but it does let them pass-through unchanged.

Quite true nd it works well with the ECS. Only problem I found was the
"Display" program on the setup disk gurus under v2.0. 🙂
I don't how that slipped through, but I just used Superview.

Even more importantly (IMHO), the A2320 deinterlaces both NTSC and PAL
video. You have a 3000, right? Have you tried running with a PAL
Workbench (640×512 without overscan) or using DPaint in PAL mode? The
extra resolution is very nice!

Not *quite* so… It's my understanding the A2320 does'nt effectively
deinterlace the 1200×400 ECS mode. Neither does the Flicker fixer.
Although the 2320 doesn't deinterlace the new interlaced modes, at least
it lets them pass-through. It is my understanding that the flicker-fixer
from microway doesn't handle it at all.

Hmmm… I dunno if that's a real major concern or not since the signals
would still be available via the RGB port. Also, considering Microway's DEB
product, I still think the Flicker Fixer may be the more flexable solution
in this regard. That in conjuction with their genlock option, it's still a
more usable solution.
Through other sources, I've heard that unlike MicroWays' FF, Commodore's
fully supports the total resolutions of the new 2.0 AmigaDOS. A good
example is MW goes with 704 X 470 in overscan, while Commodore's FF goes
with the full 768 X 480.
MicroWay's product is an excellent one, but Commodore's product would be
the choice for me.

Sounds like what I have been waiting for (or a used flicker fixer), a few
questions thous as this is the first I have heard of this: does it take up
the video slot and what monitor choices are there or will a plain VGA do?

It goes in the video slot. I don't know if you could use the MW DEB adapter
or not.
As for monitors, I am using a Tatung multisynch. It works extremely well
and has very little "black border". I am going to try opening her up soon
and look for a width adjustment inside. Top to bottom, the external
controls have enough range to eliminate the border, but the external width
control leaves a 1/4" on either side.
The manual says "Video output is compatible with standard multiscan
(multisync) VGA monitors…"

Jane – yes, it does use the video slot.

I purchased the Display Enhancer just last week and am now flicker-free! It
does the same magic that the original Flicker Fixer does but also hhas a
switch on the back to bypass the Enhancer into standard interlace mode as
available on the 23 pin connector. It has a VGA compatible 15 pin connector
and I was able to use the VGA supplied cable with the monitor out of the
box with no problems.

Maybe you could try the DEB adaptor from Microway? Don't know if it works
with the A2320 though.

My knowledge on this product is limited to the information I posted. In,
general I believe the A2320 is similar to MicroWay's Flicker Fixer in
capability and does require the use of a Multiscanning (or VGA monitor if
you want the deinterlaced mode only (without the interlaced NTSC modes)).
We'll have to wait for the independent reviews to be sure what differences
there are other than a lower price for Commodore's board.
